Emily's POV.

I widen my eyes and look at Cayden's mouth. I feel like I've misheard something, so I try to understand every syllable he utters until the pain in my wrist drags me back to reality.

"No, I didn't think that way," I say quietly.

He is the heir to the Boyd Group. Considering his education, appearance, family background, and financial status, he should marry a bride with the same circle. Reality isn't a romantic movie; there aren't many Cinderella stories about who marries the prince. I have never expected such things, not even in my dreams.

Cayden releases me.

"I don't know if you've seen my resume when I joined the company." I take a deep breath. "I'm an orphan. I grew up in a welfare institution. So having a child of my own makes me very happy."

The baby will be the only relative I have in this world.

"And your other personality is really nice to me," I add.

Cayden's face is as cold as ice. I look up into his ice-cold eyes and swallow. "You would say many sweet words to me, even though—although the purpose was just to drag me into bed. You might not remember that night when I resigned, you took me away, kissed me in the car... you even said you liked me..."

After a few dates with Cayden, I suddenly found it strange because we were nothing like a couple in love. Traveling, shopping, watching movies... we never did any of those things. Our dating routine was always the same—he booked a hotel room and sent me the room number.

He couldn't even wait for me to shower before pulling me towards the bed.

The hotel curtains were never opened.

"Later, your friend Hunter found me and explained everything to me." My voice gets smaller and smaller.

"I'm very sorry." Cayden continues to scrutinize me, but his expression softens a bit.

"It's okay. "After all, he didn't force me. I was willing.

Until Cayden went on a business trip to North America, and I found out I was pregnant.

The air falls silent for a while, and he speaks again. "I want to correct my personality disorder."

"Of course." I nod.

Not to mention the potential difficulties it might bring to Cayden's work in the future, every time I have sex with Cayden, it feels like half my life is gone. He is never satisfied, and afterwards, I can't sit normally on a chair because it hurts.

"According to you and Hunter, my second personality has a serious sex addiction." Cayden crosses his fingers and puts on a businesslike tone, "It's probably similar to drug addiction, and treatment should also include withdrawal."

I look up, "So?"

"So I need to cut off any contact with you as much as possible." He gives an example. "Like your current address. I know it, so I went to find you last night, right?"

"And the baby in your belly. It's a mistake. I'm very sorry, so we can sign an agreement to resolve all the issues at once."

I suddenly feel a bit dazed.

I think back to my first prenatal check-up at the hospital.

I still remember the screen. It was dark, and a not very distinct white shadow was wrapped in a black haze, very small, with an unclear shape, unrecognizable as anything.

"The baby is curling up now," the doctor pointed out. "Look, this round part is the baby's head, the hands and feet are here, still not very clear..."

"The embryo is developing well, the cranial halo is intact, the spine is aligned continuously and neatly, the heart rate is about 165 beats per minute, very healthy."
