"I'm leaving for school

"I'm leaving for school." I spoke before closing the door of my house as I stepped out in the street.

"Boo, Ahn Miso!" I jumped when someone suddenly yelled in my ear as soon as I stepped in the street.
I frustratedly looked at the boy who couldn't stop laughing after seeing my reaction. Nishimura Riki!

"What the heck are you doing here?"

"Oh, nothing. Just wanted to walk school with you." He smiled, throwing his arm over my shoulder as he pulled me closer.

I let out a slight yelp out of surprise. Why's he so touchy?

"Has Yena left yet?" Oh, now I know. I tried to ignore the disappointment and sadness I felt as I gently pushed his hands off me.

"No, her father drives her in the morning." I started to walk, leaving him behind. Watching your crush being head over heels for your cousin, what a great way to start your day.

"Oh, then you should help me buy some fresh strawberries and flowers." He spoke as he walked beside me. He's already on his mission to impress Yena, wow.

"Yena doesn't like strawberries. Her mother used to microwave hers for me." I was trying my best to not snap at him or cry.

"Oh? But that must be a decade ago, that's when you two last talked. What if she likes strawberries now? Just in case, let's buy some." I ignored what he said as I continued to walk quietly.

"And I also like my strawberries microwaved, like you. You're my mate, Ahn Miso." He again put his arm around my shoulder, smiling.

Don't make me fall for you harder Riki when you can't love me back.

-

"You should watch if someone's looking while I put these in her locker." Riki told me as he slowly opened Yena's locker and stuffed a container of strawberries, a small bouquet of pink roses and a handwritten letter inside with a smile.

"For how long have you liked her?" I asked absentmindedly as I couldn't help the burning of my chest.

"For a week." He giggled softly. What about me, Riki? I have liked you for years. Your love is nothing compared to mine, yours is just a silly crush.

I saw his eyes widen a little before he quickly grabbed my wrist and pulled me to hide behind a nearby wall as he pinned me against it, almost pressing his body on mine.

"Nishimura--"

"Shh!" He covered my mouth with his hand, "Yena's here."

I gulped, looking in his eyes. His eyes that were not looking at me but someone else.
But even if they weren't staring at me, the beauty they held didn't lessen a bit for me.

I think it's not that bad if he's only approaching me for Yena. What matters is that I could finally see him from this close, I was tired of admiring him from a far.

I blinked when the spark in his eyes faded a little, his hopeful eyes turned blank.

"What happened?" I slowly asked in a whisper when his hand that was covering my mouth fell down.

He moved back without saying anything and before I could even realize, he disappeared into the direction of his classroom.

I didn't follow him. Instead I made my towards Yena's locker. My lips parted when I saw his letter, flowers and strawberries being thrown in the nearby dustbin.

Did Yena throw it? Is it why he looked so upset?

I should be happy with that but I wasn't. I understand how sad Riki must have felt, I would cry if my crush did the same to me.

Love is same for everyone after all.

I carefully picked everything up from the dustbin. If Yena doesn't want it, I'll have it.

I don't mind recieving love from something that's trash for someone, at least I got the love I could never have.

-

I clenched the straps of my bag as I waited for Riki outside the school.

Did he already leave? Doesn't he want to know more about Yena?
If he's already giving up then I'm disappointed.

How could he give up this fast when I haven't given up on him for four years?

My eyes lit up when I finally saw him coming with his head hung low. I quickly ran up to him.

"Are you okay, Riki?" He looked up to meet my eyes, showing his vulnerability that laid in his eyes where once hope was.

"Look, I'm so sorry for what happened--" I stopped midway when he suddenly engulfed me into a tight hug.
His hands wrapped around my waist as his head rested on the crook of my neck.

Heck, I can feel his heartbeat. And I'm sure he's feeling mine too, especially when mine is so loud.

"Was it necessary for her to throw those? She didn't even glace at the letter, I practiced writing it in korean for five times." He whispered, his breath fanning against my bare neck.

It's totally heart-wrenching to have your love shedding tears for his love on your shoulder.

I slowly rubbed his back with my trembling hands. How am I supposed to comfort him when I'm also breaking apart?

"It's okay... don't give up." I tried to comfort him with the words I needed to hear.

He slowly pulled back and held my hands as we started to walk together. "I'll make sure my love isn't one sided. I'll make her love me back."

Don't, please.

"You know..." I started, "Yena's mother and father have a love marriage. But at the beginning Yena's mother loved another guy but that didn't stop her father from loving her mother."

I looked at him, "Yena had been admiring her parent's love from a young age. So... don't give up."

I didn't know why was I even encouraging him to keep loving someone else but then he gave me a small smile and it got a lot clearer for me.

I'm hurting myself so he could keep smiling like that. I didn't like it one bit when he was sad.

Shall I confess to him that I'm in love with his smile or to put it another words, that I'm in love with him?
