The day of our honeymoon dawned with a surreal clarity, the sunlight filtering through the curtains of our apartment as if reluctant to disturb the peace that had settled between Jungkook and me. I had spent a restless night tossing and turning, the weight of anticipation and uncertainty pressing down on me like a heavy blanket.
After weeks of hesitation and internal conflict, the day had finally arrived. Jungkook and I were bound for Mauritius, a tropical paradise that beckoned with promises of sun-drenched beaches and azure waters. Yet, for me, this journey was filled with twists that no amount of scenic beauty could soothe.
The airport was a whirlwind of activity, the air thick with the excitement of travelers embarking on their own adventures. Jungkook and I navigated the formalities with practiced ease, our interactions polite but tinged with an underlying tension that neither of us dared to acknowledge.
As we settled into our seats on the plane, I chose a window seat, hoping that the mesmerizing view outside would distract me from the anxiety within. I glanced at Jungkook beside me, his expression a mixture of hopefulness and tension. Did he feel the weight of this journey as eagerly as I did?
The engines roared to life, the plane taxiing down the runway with a sense of purpose that seemed to echo my own conflicted emotions. The familiar jolt of takeoff sent a shiver down my spine, a reminder that there was no turning back now.
I gazed out the window, watching as the cityscape below slowly gave way to endless stretches of ocean and fluffy clouds scattered across the sky like cotton candy. The beauty of the world unfolding before me should have filled me with awe, but instead, it served as a stark reminder of the incongruity of our situation.
Jungkook reached out tentatively, his hand hovering in the space between us before withdrawing. "Are you okay?" he asked softly, his voice barely audible above the hum of the engines.
I tore my gaze away from the window, meeting his concerned eyes with a forced smile. "Yeah," I replied, my voice betraying none of the turmoil churning inside me. "Just... adjusting."
He nodded, his expression understanding, yet tinged with disappointment. "It's okay," he said quietly. "Take your time."
The hours passed in a blur of in-flight movies and polite conversation. Jungkook made an effort to engage me in small talk, pointing out landmarks below and sharing anecdotes from his childhood travels. I listened attentively, offering occasional responses that felt hollow even to my own ears.
As we approached Mauritius, the landscape below transformed into a breathtaking mosaic of turquoise lagoons and emerald-green forests. The island shimmered like a gem in the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean, its beauty undeniable yet distant.
We landed smoothly at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, welcomed by the warm embrace of tropical air and the gentle sway of palm trees in the breeze. The airport buzzed with tourists eager to begin their adventures, their laughter and excited chatter a stark contrast to the quiet tension that enveloped Jungkook and me.
Outside, our fancy resort was ready—a luxurious getaway tucked by the beautiful Trou aux Biches coastline. The ride from the airport went by quickly, with pretty drives and quick peeks at local life. Every moment got us nearer to what was bound to happen: our honeymoon.
When we arrived, friendly staff quickly took our bags and led us inside. The resort felt calm and luxurious, with open-air buildings and a view of the ocean that seemed to go on forever.
Jungkook and I were shown to our suite—a spacious haven adorned with modern furnishings and a private balcony overlooking the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. The sight should have taken my breath away, yet I found myself struggling to reconcile the beauty around me with the turmoil within.
As I unpacked in silence, Jungkook approached tentatively. "Do you want to explore the resort?" he offered, his voice gentle.
I shook my head, avoiding his gaze. "Not right now," I murmured, retreating to the balcony where the salty breeze offered a temporary reprieve.
Jungkook respected my need for solitude, busying himself with unpacking and exploring the resort on his own. The hours slipped by unnoticed, the sun setting in a blaze of colors that painted the sky in hues of orange and pink.
Later that evening, we dined in silence at a beachfront restaurant, the sound of waves lapping against the shore providing a soothing backdrop to our meal. Jungkook made attempts at conversation, his words mingling with the gentle rhythm of the ocean, but my responses remained curt and distant.
As the night grew darker, we went back to our room. I stood on the balcony again, feeling the cool night breeze on my skin. I looked out at the wide, dark sky. The stars sparkled above, reminding me of the endless opportunities ahead of us.
Jungkook approached quietly from behind, his presence a familiar warmth at my side. "I know this isn't what you expected," he said softly, his voice tinged with regret. "But maybe... we can make the most of it."
I turned to face him, my eyes searching his for any sign of understanding. "I just..." I started, my voice faltering. "I don't know if I can..."
He reached out and gently took my hand in his, his touch sending a jolt of warmth through me. "We'll take it one day at a time," he said earnestly. "No expectations, no pressure. Just... being here."
I nodded slowly, feeling the weight of his words settle over me like a comforting blanket. Maybe, amidst the uncertainty and discomfort, there was a glimmer of hope—a chance to navigate these uncharted waters together, and perhaps, discover something unexpected along the way.
As we stood on the balcony, surrounded by stars and the sound of waves, Jungkook stood beside me. In that brief moment under the Mauritius sky, I found some comfort in the quiet understanding that bound us together—a delicate bond weaving through the challenges of our hesitant marriage.
"And... Don't worry," He continued, "I'll sleep on the couch."
I looked up at him, "Why?"
"I can sense that you are not comfortable." He sighed, "But it's okay, take your time, I'll wait for it." He continued to at the shining-pearls-like-stars, "Always."
I don't know why, but I felt like he was the most glorious and magnificent man in the whole world, His shiny black hair swayed in the gentle breeze at the back of his neck, moonlight kissing this exquisite man was the most beautiful sight I have ever seen.
