"Mom, I'm scared."

Mara woke up to the usual birds chirping. But something was different, the reapings were today so it was loud. She walked downstairs and saw her mom sitting at the kitchen counter, her head in her hand. Mara could hear her mother's sobs. So she needed to make her happy so she walked upstairs, took a shower and got ready for the reaping, putting on her dress and walking downstairs. To find her mom gone. She walked towards the kitchen counter and there was a note.

I'm sorry for not helping you get ready for the reapings I had to go to work. I'm sorry Mara. I'll see you at the reapings though.

Love, mom

Next to the note was a bit of her makeup. Her mom always did her makeup for the reaping since she was 13. She has done it before so she didn't really care. Her mom was a really hard worker here, so she barely saw her anyways. Plus tonight they were going to celebrate her last reaping.

She did her makeup and ate breakfast. Than she was out the door and ready for her last reaping.

When she walked over to the justice hall actually excited for her last reaping. She just wanted to get it over with. She talked to some of her mom's friends' kids, actually making jokes with some of them. The girl walked towards Lady who was taking blood from little kids. She got so distracted that she didn't even know that the lady took a little bit of her blood and called next.

She was taken to the group of 18 year old girls. There were about 20 girls, it was crazy that this year they were supposed to graduate from high school if they had a normal world and the hunger games didn't take place.

She was talking with one of the girls when she heard the cheerful voice of our escort. Daisy. I don't know how she was excited to send two kids to they're death

"Welcome! Welcome. Welcome to the 69th Hunger games reaping. Before I pick our tributes. We have a special video from the capitol." Daisy told all the kids and parents. Nobody liked to watch the same capitol video every single reaping. But at least this was the last time watching it for her.

She was zoning out for the whole video she already memorized. She just looked around at all the scared kids. The 12 year Olds looked so scared most of them were already crying it was so sad watching them. She had to look away. She looked at the older guys. Some of them looked scared but the other ones just looked relaxed. It was probably because it was also they're last reaping just like her.

Since she was older she was at the back. She turned her head around and saw all the worried parents waiting to see if they're kids would be safe. Then she saw a pair of familiar eyes. Her mom kept her promise to be here for the reapings. Her mom smiled at her and she smiled back at her mom.

When she turned around Daisy was already talking again. "For this year's district 10 girl tribute will be..." when Mara heard what Daisy said next she stood in her spot her hands clenched.

"Mara throne. Sweety where are you?"

She remembered that you needed to be strong to not look weak in front of the other tributes so she put a confident face. But inside she was so scared. She started walking up to the stage, the guards behind her making sure she wouldn't run away.

"you're very beautiful, Mara." Daisy told the confident girl. Mara just thanked her by a nod with her head. "Now for the boys." Daisy said excitedly again. She put her hand in the bowl and dug around to get a boys name for the games. "Leo carpenter. Where are you?" When Mara looked at the boys there was a little boy that was looking at the stage in fear when he started to move. I got scared. What if that was her partner? She didn't want a twelve year old kid to be the boy tribute.

But when he started walking away from the group of 12 year olds that she knew, he was her district partner.

When he walked up the stage Mara felt sick to her stomach why he had such a big future ahead of him and why he should die in a horrible way. When he stood next to her, Mara gave the little boy a loving smile which he returned. He didn't look as sad as he was before so that made her happy.

"There we have it. The district 10 tributes for the 69th Hunger games." She turned around and looked at us like we needed to do something. "Go on, shake hands" she said, seeing that we didn't yet shake hands. I turned towards the little kid, I reached my arm for him to shake. When he didn't I said his name and he shared my hand. "Nice to meet you Leo." I told him. "You too Mara."

When I got pushed in the little room. I started crying so hard I thought I didn't have any left. Then my mom barged in and the guards told us only 3 minutes. She engulfed me in a heartbreaking hug. We both silently cried with eachother.

"Mom I'm scared" Mara told her mom. It was the truth she was terrified of going into the hunger games and killing innocent and maybe herself getting killed too. She hated feeling weak but being with her mom she did care at all.

"I know honey. It's so scary isn't it." Her mom combed through her hair with her fingers. Her daughter nodded. "But I know you can do this you're so strong. You're a fighter." Her mom told the young kid. Before the gourds came in and took her mother away from her. Her mother screamed

"keep believing in yourself. I love you so much sweetheart."

That was the last thing she heard from her mother for she didn't know how long. She was zoned out the rest of the time until the gairds came. She needed to look confident. Her tears were already dried up so she looked half okay. They walked her towards a car she was on the window side the same as Leo and Daisy was squished in between us two which she almost chuckled at.

When she stepped in the train Daisy told them were everything was and she was gone. thank God, that girl was so annoying she thought to herself when she heard a door open and when she looked around she saw the one and only victor from District 10
