It had been four days and Santana Lopez was still grumpy that the blonde bombshell she had met earlier in the week had not yet texted her back. She stared at the text she had delivered four days earlier to the number Brittany and given her on her run the night Santana had moved to town.

Santana: heyy, are you still willing to pull through on that promise to take me on a tour around town sometime soon?

She cringed as she looked down at her text. Had she said something the had repelled the girl from wanting to talk to her at all. She sighed as she headed down stairs, her eyes still fixated on her phone as she disregarded her mother's chit chat. Santana was not much of a happy person in the morning. "Santana, honey, I set up a job interview for you today!" Santanas heart sank as she heard that she would have to exit the comfort of her air conditioned Castle for the first time in days.

Santana wearily glanced over at Mirabel before finally engaging in conversation with her, "Where is it mama?" Mirabel giggled a little bit as she showed Santana the copy of the job application form She had kept for herself. Santanas eyes widened in shock and she slumped in her chair, knowing it was no use arguing with her mom. She had just barely managed to get out of having a summer job last year, and she knew she had no chance of avoiding a job two summers in a row.

Two hours later Santana was pulling up to the Breadstix parking lot, dressed in nice clothes, but not too nice, as it was just an interview for a job at a local restaurant.

"Hi, I'm here for an interview? My name is-" Santana was cut off from her sentence by a soothing voice at the front desk.

"Santana Lopez! Hi! I'll be conducting your interview today." It was Brittany. Just her luck. Of course Santana had t9 be interviewed by a girl who had ignored her texts for the past couple of days. "Follow me into the back." Santana closed her eyes in frustration as she quite reluctantly follows Brittany into the back area of the restaurant.

Santana tried to focus in her interview, but couldn't really bring herself to care that much, as she knew, the would hire her no matter what. She chose instead to look into Brittany's dreamily blue eyes. She quipped back at Brittany's questions with relatively generic responses before the blonde girl got to her last question.

"Why didn't you ever text me?"

"What do you mean I never texted you? I texted you four days ago!"

"Well I didn't get anything." Brittany watched as Santana pulled out her phone and showed her the text she had sent earlier in the week. Brittany started to laugh, making Santana scrunch her eyebrows and angrily glare at the blonde. "I'm such a ditz! I gave you the wrong number! You see that two at the end? It's supposed to be a three!"

Santana was a little bit annoyed, but also extremely relieved at the same time, knowing that Brittany had not been purposefully ignoring her, but rather made a dumb mistake. Brittany shook hands with Santana and then walked her out to her car, telling her the details of the job she had just secured. Santana listened attentively as Brittany blabbed on. "Here! These are my hours. If you can, you should try and get some hours at the same time as me!"

Santana smiled and drove off after giving Brittany a cute little wave. As she drove, she felt a short buzz in her pocket where her phone was.

Hopping in her bed, Santana began to look at the notifications recently added to the lock screen of her phone.

Brittany: Hey Santana! 😜 You should stop by my house tonight, and maybe I can show you around town like I told you I would.

Santana smiled to herself before starting to text Brittany back. Wait. Maybe she should wait a little bit before responding to the text. Was she overthinking this??? No matter the case, Santana flopped on her bed and sighed, drifting to sleep, despite the fact that it was only Four O'Clock in the afternoon.

Shit. She had definitely slept a little bit longer than she had planned on. Santana turned her head to look at the clock on her wall to see that she had slept all the way through the night. And now she had work. Why had she let Brittany convince her to pick up a 1 pm shift the day after her interview?

"Good Afternoon, My name is Santana and I'll be your server today!" Santana was excited to serve her first table at her new job.

"Hi Santana! I haven't seen you around here before. Are you new to the area?" A short blonde teenager sitting at the table across from a pudgy looking boy, who Santana assumed to be her boyfriend questioned Santana. Santana nodded, but her attention was across the building. She looked over to the area Brittany was serving and watched as the blonde girl she seemed to have a newfound obsession with leaned over to hug another blonde girl who looked to be about a year younger than Santana herself.

Santana suddenly felt something rise in her chest. She didn't even know why. It's not like she was dating Brittany or anything. She had only had like three interactions with the girl. Plus, the girl Brittany had hugged was probably just a friend. Right? Santana took the girls order and returned to the kitchen.

Santana worked through the rest of her five hour shift before meeting up with Brittany outside the restaurant. "You ready for a tour? I'm driving!" Brittany was visibly excited as she hopped into the drivers seat, waving in the black haired girl standing right outside her car.

Brittany drove around Lima for about forty five minutes, pointing out all the significant places in town. Towards the end of the unofficial tour, Brittany pulled into the parking lot of William McKinley High School. "You said you're a cheerleader right?" Santana nodded her head. "Well, get ready cuz we're both gonna be spending a lot of time over there in the fall." Brittany gestured over to the football field.

Santana's mind raced at the new revelation that Brittany was also a cheerleader. How had she not known this before. Santana realized she was zoned out of the conversation and quickly thought of something to say, "I'm so excited!" She smiled up at Brittany, who was a few inches taller than her.

"Me too! Soon I'll have to introduce you to my friends on the team. You're gonna love them, I promise." Brittany drove out of the parking lot to head to Santana's house.

"See ya soon!"

Santana hugged the blonde and hopped out of Brittany's car, skipping up into her house and her room. That was great! She busied herself with hopeful thoughts about Brittany. Santana stared out her window at the pink and orange sunset, her eyes dropping over to the Pierce residence. She watched as Brittany got out of her car and clumsily dropped her keys. The black haired girl giggled at her actions.

Santana looked down to the bottom of the driveway to see another car pulling in. That's weird, Brittany's parent's cars were both already present, sitting idly next to the house. The blonde girl Santana had seen hugging Brittany earlier in the restaurant stepped out of the car and hurried up to Brittany. Santana watched intently as the blondes kissed and started to get a little bit hands.

Santana's jaw dropped a little bit as she turned away from the window to cover her face in a pink pillow sitting on the edge of her bed. Why could Santana never find a girl who was available? Before falling asleep, Santana decided to put her feelings aside and be fine with being just friends with Brittany. It's not like there was anything between them in the first place, right?

The mind of Santana Lopez was busy with the traffic of unnecessary thoughts about her and Brittany's relationship as 'friends'. She popped in the AirPods that were laying on her desk, avoiding gazing through the window, which seemed to be teasing her with its promise of visions of a certain Blonde girl. Santana opened Spotify and clicked play on a playlist she regularly listened to after rough days.

The song, Somewhere Only We Know served as the background music for the movie of tears that flowed into the vision of Santana's wet brown eyes.

Next time, she thought to herself, I won't get so attached to someone I don't even really know.

Santana hated catching feelings. In fact, she just hated feelings in general. Over time in her life, she had come to the realization that most things were better without them.
