It's time to get ready for the ball! We don't want to be late, do we? Or we might end up with seats in the back. Xoxo, Gossip Girl

Hair? Perfect. Make-up? Flawless. Dress? Pristine. She did a last twirl in front of the mirror for her inspection.
"You look so beautiful, Miss Blair," Dorota's cheeks were pink with her compliment as she admired Blair and the handiwork she had assisted with.
"This night is going to go perfectly," Blair said, trying to ignore the butterflies in her stomach.
"It will, Miss Blair."
Blair nodded in agreement before finally leaving the mirror, knowing there was nothing left but to actually go to the Cotillion now. For one horrible second she thought of all the awful things that could happen tonight. She could fall down the staircase at introductions. She could slip during the dance portion. Her dress could bust open. Her heel could snap. Somebody could fall on her. She let all these thoughts zoom through her mind before she took a big breath and released the anxious tension.
Her Cotillion would be perfect. "I'm ready to start my night."
"Mr. Humphrey is waiting downstairs for you."
Blair couldn't help but grin. His reaction yesterday to her dress had been the exact awe inspiring reaction she was looking for. She wouldn't mind a small repeat of yesterday but now with all the details and fine tuning.
Who would've thought that she would be going to the Cotillion with Humphrey of all people? Tonight this duo were going to amaze people and be the talk of the town. The scenario seemed fitting when this Cotillion had taken a lot of guts and effort to get here.
She started to take the staircase and was half way down them when Dan failed to appear. She was on the last couple steps and her eyes scanned the voluminous greeting room to see no escort in sight.
"Dorota!" she called out, without much thought. "I thought you said he was down here?"
Dorota's head peeked over the top of the stairs, eyes wide. "He was, Miss Blair."
"Well he's not anymore."
Dorota moved spritely down the stairs and started leaning around corners to check if he was in the salon or hallway. "I will find him."
She would never admit it but Blair felt dizzy and a little lost as she watched Dorota search for her date. She expected Nate to pull this move, especially after her last birthday, but not Dan.
Even all her worst case scenarios did not prepare her for a last minute dissertation.
Her phone beeped.
.
What happens when a certain blonde comes calling? Uh oh, B. Xoxo, Gossip Girl.
.
Blair checked her phone and goosebumps broke out on her skin. Did Serena call Dan? She read the Gossip Girl post ten more times for clues before the room started to spin and she dropped her phone.
"Dorota... Where is he?"
She didn't know anything could be worse than her birthday but the way her vision was going spotty with her hands splayed across her ribcage, bidding the body part to work so she could breathe, made her Cotillion compete for first place. Oh, how competitive she always was!
She would laugh if it didn't also mean she wouldn't cry as well. She managed to start breathing exercises while she listened to Dorota search. She didn't know how long she floated between full panic attack and complete dread when Dorota placed a gentle hand on her elbow and steered her to an old butler closet she hadn't seen since her friends and her played hide and seek in the fourth or fifth grade. "I found him, Miss Blair."
As they neared the door, she heard his muffled voice and her shakiness began to calm, which brought a grateful smile to her caretaker. "You're safe, Blair," Dorota said before departing after a soft pat of her hand on the back of Blair's hand.
Blair watched her go but her attention was through the door,
"Look. I'm sorry that you see this as being disrespectful or whatever, mom. But you were the one who assumed this was done and over with, without checking in on me."
"..."
"Well, I'm sorry but I want to see this through."
"..."
"You know what? We've discussed this enough. Ground me or whatever, I have a ball to attend. Enjoy your art show." There were some noises before Dan exited the bathroom, dressed in his custom made suit of grey that had a slight shimmer, similar to Blair, but was made to compliment her more than outshine. There was a quiet confidence in him and Blair knew he felt good in the suit. Her anxiety ebbed away with this knowledge and the more she got to gaze upon him.
To the point that she was staring and forgot about the current predicament as he almost walked into her.
"Oh shit, Blair! You scared me," he jumped, not expecting her in this deserted hall, which he obviously chose for privacy.
"I scared you? Nobody could find you, Humphrey." Her stunned surprise fell away into anger. It felt safer than everything else she was feeling right now.
Like how scared she had been that he could have ditched her for Serena too.
"Ah. Sorry. I wanted to get yelled at in peace." He signalled to his phone before pocketing the device.
But he was here. With her.
"I heard that..." She looked up at him with concern. She was more than happy to inspect into his life right now rather than think of the panic attack she just sidestepped by mere inches.
Her eyes flicked across his face, remembering the conversation she had overheard and then the memory of them smoking together came back. He was missing his mom's thing for her? "Don't tell me you're getting in trouble for little old me." She enjoyed the idea more than she should.
Especially because this meant the blonde Gossip Girl had been referring to was Dan's mom, not Serena. She didn't know if Dan's mom was blonde but Jenny had to get that blonde mop top from somewhere.
He pursued his lips. "Then I won't say a word."
She laughed, which surprised even her before she turned to leave, "Watch out, Humphrey. Or l might think I'm special or something. Now hurry up. We got a Cotillion to bless with our presence."

Spotted: Is that Lonely Boy escorting Queen B into the Cotillion? Is there an uprising in the works here? Stay tuned. Xoxo, Gossip Girl.
