The New Life of Amaya

Chapter 16

When I woke I woke in a hospital bed in a room by myself. I looked around the room and saw Zhi standing at the doorway speaking to Andreas. They were in deep conversation about what happened to the men in the car. Andreas looked sick with stress and worry. He also looked as if he hadn't slept in days. 

"Andreas.." I choked out. I swallowed but my throat was dry, though I tried again, "Andreas..."

Andreas looked over and rushed to my side, "Amaya, you're finally awake." He said relieved as he sat in the chair next to my bed.

"When's the last time you slept..?" I managed. 

Andreas laughed a bit, "I'll get some sleep now that I know you're okay. I don't want you to leave home for a while.."

"I have to go to school.." I said trying to sit up. 

Andreas quickly helped me to a sitting position, "After what happened, I'm scared to let you return to school"

"Please...?" I begged him "I don't want to be confined to the home all the time.. I want to go to school like the others.."

"On one condition." Andreas said looking at me, "I will make it known that I am the king and that we are together. I will attend class with you at Equestrian and Art and I will continue to teach your Etiquettes class. There will also be extra guards."

I nodded, "Please." I begged him, "Please bring the horses home too..?"

Andreas smiled, "It's already been done. You've been here for a couple weeks already.."

"That long..?" I asked and Andreas nodded. "What time is it? I have to go to class..." I went to get out of bed, "Rex!" I shouted, "Rex!"

Andreas whistled and Zhi opened the door. Rex came running in, and jumped on the bed with me.

"Rex!" I cried and hugged him "I'm so sorry Rex!"

Rex whined and licked my face all over.

"Amaya, it's okay. Rex is okay. He's healed completely now." Andreas reassured me. "You can go to class tomorrow. Today is one of your online learning days but everything has been excused already."

"I want to go home.." I whispered.

Andreas nodded, "I can arrange that. It'll be easy for a doctor to monitor you at home too." He looked at Zhi, "Please arrange for her discharger and let the others know it's time to leave"

Zhi nodded leaving the room and the triplets came in bowing, "We're sorry for not protecting you, Miss Amaya" The triplets said dropping to their knees, "Please forgive us"

I fidgeted in my bed looking away, "It...It wasn't your fault..." I mumbled. 

"Boys, stop. You're making her uncomfortable." Andreas said, "Why don't you get a wheelchair for us." 

The three nodded and left returning quickly with a wheelchair. Andreas lifted me up and placed me in the wheelchair. Rex came to stand right next to me and I grabbed his fur in my hand afraid to let him go. Andreas grabbed the blanket that was on the bed and placed it on top of me. It was Rose gold and had white flowers on it. It was really soft and pretty. Once I was situated Andreas came behind me and began pushing the wheelchair slowly so Rex could keep an easy pace next to me. 

Andreas leaned down to whisper in my ear, "Marry me, mi paloma"

"Andreas..." I began but he kissed me making me stop

"It's okay, when you're ready." He said with a smile. 

Andreas then pushed me through the hospital while a circle of guards surrounded us. Once through the main doors of the hospital to Zhi's car waiting at the front along with more guards. Zhi who'd been leading the circle of guards stopped in front of his car and opened the door. Many of the guards now created a protective circle around us. 

"Rex, you get in first. I'll put her in next." Andreas said lifting me up from the wheelchair and placing me in the car before getting in himself. He placed the blanket back over me and kissed the side of my head as Zhi closed the door and got in with one of the triplets in the front seat. 

I laid my head on Andreas' shoulder, "Thank you.." I whispered closing my eyes.

Andreas kissed the top of my head, "you're welcome"

Soon I felt Andreas shifting and shortly after lifting me up out of the car. He walked inside and up the stairs to my room where he laid me down on my bed. Rex came and laid on the bed next to me . Andreas covered me up and rang for the maids. He posted guards up throughout the house to ensure our safety.

"We never had Chinses food night.." I said sadly.

"It's okay, Amaya. We can have it for dinner tonight. For now, please eat what the kitchen brings here." Andreas said, "For now please rest"

I nodded closing my eyes again. Rex curled up on my side laying his head on my chest. Andreas sat on the other side of my bed holding my hand rubbing his thumb across my hand.  As soon as I drifted off back to sleep I started to dream about the men who kidnapped me. Fear woke me from my dream and I sat up with a start scaring Rex. Andreas came from the door after hear Rex's yelp and sat on the bed.

"Are you okay?" Andreas asked

I nodded my head. "I don't want to stay in bed.."

"Just until dinner, okay?" Andreas asked. He brought the plate from my desk over to me, "For now, will you please eat the soup that Chef Lei prepared for you?"

I nodded taking the bowl for him, "Thank you.." I whispered grabbing the spoon and began eating. 

Andreas smiled as I ate and went to speak to Zhi once again. "If it comes down to it, yes." Andreas said to whatever Zhi had said. "I want you to prepare for my official reentrance into the island. Let's set a ball for after she's feeling better but we may convene with the lords and ladies of the island in the throne room. I don't want too much stimulation for her right now."

Zhi nodded, "On it Boss. I think it's time for you to get some rest too." I noticed Andreas look back at me as if hesitating. Zhi noticed as well and spoke again, "I'll have a bed brought in for you?"

"Andreas...?" I whispered looking at him after placing the bowl down on the table that was brought into my room. 

Andreas looked at me a smile on his face, "Si, mi paloma?" 

"Will you sleep here with me..? I don't want to be alone.." I whispered.

Andreas nodded, "I'll be right back."

Andreas left and later reemerged now wearing navy blue silk pajamas. In his arms he had a bigger blanket. The same blue and gold blanket as before. He looked at Rex, "Mind sharing her for the night?" he asked. Rex huffed but moved over so I could move over with Andreas' help before he laid the blue blanket on top of me and climbing in under it. 

I curled into him and closed my  eyes. "Goodnight, Andreas." I whispered.

"Goodnight, mi paloma" Andreas said kissing the top of my head. 

With those few quiet words I began to fall back asleep.
