Andreas opened the door and peeked out seeing the fear and sadness in my face. He whistled but there was nothing. No bark. No Rex running in. Silence overlapped the car even though I could hear the fighting in the background. Rex has got to be hurt.. He wouldn't not come. Even though I've barely been here, Rex has never left my side and refuses to leave me for long. Andreas whistled again and soon Rex was jumping in the car.
"Rex!" I screamed and he came straight to me.
Rex whined as he licked my face and I hugged him looking him over. Thankfully Rex was okay and he sat on the seat between Andreas and I. I held him protectively, petting him as I stared out the window. Occasionally I'd glance next to me to see Andreas look at me with slight concern. Sometimes Zhi looked at me through the rearview mirror. Though, even with their glances, the rest of the drive back to Andreas' home was silent while Rex and I stayed curled together. Soon the car pulled up the drive and I could feel my heart race in my chest at the sight of the dogs that ran around. Rex noticed immediately and began licking my face.
Zhi parked the car and came around opening my door allowing Rex, Andreas, and myself out. Andreas placed his hand on my shoulder, giving me a look as if telling me to follow him before walking inside. I looked back at my school stuff in the car but Zhi waved me off as he grabbed it from the back seat. Rex and I followed Andreas inside. As we walked through the house I was caught off guard by how magnificent it was.
As soon as we walked through the front door I saw a split staircase leading to a second floor. the walls were all right there were hallways under the staircases that lead to other parts of the home and in front of me was a beautiful painting of a nature scenery of what seemed like from a dream. Above us hung a gorgeous chandelier made of crystal and what looked like gold. I stopped in the middle of the room looking at Andreas who was already half way up the stairs on the right.
"This isn't the same house from when I first came..." I mumbled
Andreas turned around, "No, in fact this is my personal home. You stayed in the house the guards lived in originally. This time, to ensure your safety I had a room here prepared for you."
"Oh.." I mumbled catching up to him on the stairs. "thank you.." I whispered.
Andreas nodded continuing to lead the way, Zhi not far behind us. At the top of the stairs we took a right and went down a corridor of rooms. Three doors down to my right Andreas stopped and opened the door gesturing for me to walk in. Directly in front of me was a big bed made of rose gold, gold and white. The windows behind the bed were arched and had a beautiful view of the ocean. To the left of the bed was a set of white doors leading to a closet, to the right of the bed was a white writing desk and to the right of that sat an easel. In front of the bed that was adorned with white and rose gold bedding with a white canopy sat a white bench. Across from the bed on the wall was mounted a TV.
"This is your room. I'll have the maids put everything away when it gets here." Andreas said looking at me. "You have free rein over most of my home, I just ask that you stay out of the room under the left staircase and the wing across from this one. Otherwise you can go anywhere."
I nodded, "Thank you, Andreas."
"You're welcome," Andreas said with a smile, "The kitchen is under the right staircase just past the dining hall, There is a pool in the back yard and you can swim any time. There are many other features to this home, but unfortunately I have some work to do."
I nodded my head thanking him again as he left. Zhi walked in setting my school stuff down near the writing desk and placing my artwork on the easel. After he placed the pad on the easel he took a step back and looked at my art.
"You are very talented, Amaya." Zhi said. His tone hinted to something else though.
"Thank you Zhi."
"You're welcome, Amaya. Feel free to explore. Here in this house, you do not have to worry about guards following you everywhere." Zhi said as he left my room, "Just remember to avoid the areas of the house that Andreas told you about."
I nodded and looked at Rex, "Shall we go explore?"
Rex barked making me smile at him and together Rex and I left the room to explore. I couldn't go anywhere else on the second level because there was only one other wing and he didn't want me to go in that one. Rex and I went down the stairs and to the right walking down under the other staircase and began walking through the hall. Along the walls were paintings similar to the ones at school. The same man, woman and child as the painting of the one I used as inspiration. Maybe Andreas has a love for the royal family and respects them. I kept walking and came to a double set of heavy white doors with gold trim. Rex was right on my heal as we explored further down this corridor. I grabbed the handles and pulled the doors open toward me. Though what greeted me was not a dining hall but rather a completely different room.
The floors mirrored the ones of the entry room when you walk in through the front doors of the home. But here there were pillars and across from me was there a very fancy couch like seat adorned in gold and white. This room also was also two levels and along the walls behind the pillars were more paintings of the same family and mixed among them were paintings of the same little boy as he grew older. I continued to walk between the pillars and the wall looking at the paintings of this little boy as he grew older. After about six paintings I no longer saw the man or woman in them, but a growing young man who looked pained.
"What are you doing here?" Andreas' voice rang through the room but it didn't sound pleasing to the ears. In fact he sounded angry and when I looked at him he looked even more angry than I could have imagined.
I was frozen in fear because the atmosphere was thick with anger. Rex caught on and pressed his body up against mine. Andreas walked closer, his anger visibly radiating off of him.
"I said what are you doing here?" This time Andreas was close to yelling.
"I-I'm sorry..!" I said and took off thankful Rex stayed behind to keep Andreas from following after me.
