Chapter 1: Saved

I sat in my cell, stacking the same pebbles over and over again. My back was injured, as well as one of my wings. I had been whipped and beaten earlier today, I don't know why, I never do. They've been doing this for years. 2 years, 3 months, 14 days, in counting, due to the scratch marks I've made on the wall. I sighed, adding another pebble to the tower, only for it to collapse.

I once dreamed that I escaped, or that someone would rescue me, but the more days that passed, the more those dreams turned to dust.

I had given up long, long, ago. Probably when I went blind.

I once was able to see, with my eyes and see colors and everything. Once my alcohol obsessed father sold me off, scientists experimented on me, injecting me with serum after serum, gradually making my vision terrible until I was blind.

They said, "If she escapes, she'll tell the police what we look like, and our cover will be blown! The only way is if she doesn't know what we look like."

Woo. Yay me. Nothing I like better than losing one of my main senses. Well, kinda. Most people would just not be able to see, but after about a year, my wings adapted and became my eyes.

Not literally, that would just be creepy, but my wings would send off vibrations, bouncing back to my wings if they hit something. Eventually, I was able to recognize shapes, and how far away an object was. I never told the demon scientists of course, that's just pure stupidity.

I leaned back against the musty wall, tilting my head up at the ceiling. I groaned, as my bruised and butchered back hit the wall. I immediately leaned away, clenching my teeth as I waited for the pain to subside.

Once the majority of it was gone, I carefully leaned onto my side, my wings wrapping around me like a blanket. Who knows what'll happen tomorrow. I'm so excited.

I cried one, silent tear, as the darkness of sleep overcame me.

I woke to the sound of a blaring alarm. Maybe the building was on fire. I hope the scientists get burned. Then I would get burned as well. Oh well, if I'm going down I'm taking them with me.

There was a loud explosion down the hallway from my cell, so I shuffled over to the bars. I fluttered my wings, sending vibrations up the hallway, feeling the petty guards and scientists running away.

Huh. What kinda thing would make them run? Maybe Dabi was having a tantrum. No, that can't be it, his quirk is fire, not explosions.

Out of nowhere I heard a voice say, "Check all the rooms, make sure there isn't anyone in need of help."

Help? Who were these people? Oh. OH. No. It isn't possible. It can't be. They couldn't be Heroes. Can they?

Maybe if I got their attention they would save me. "Hello?" I said quietly, barely louder than a whisper.

The muttering that I heard stopped. "H-Hello?" I said again.

I heard the sound of thudding footsteps coming towards me. Scared, I scuffled away from the bars, hiding my body with my crimson wings, leaving just enough room for my face to peek out.

I felt three bodies come into sight, on tree looking guy, with branch like skin. One with a scarf around his neck, and wearing goggles. And large guy with "V" shaped hair, and a wide smile.

"Hello? It's okay, we're here to save you. We'll get you out of there is a second, just hang on." The tree guy said, walking over to the metal bars, braking the lock within seconds. Him and the other people walked into my cell. I shoved myself further into the corner, scared they might hurt me.

"It's okay, we're not going to hurt you. We just need to get you out of here. Don't panic." scarf guy said, his voice calm and soothing. His reassurance calmed me just enough to drop my wings a couple inches. I slowly got to my feet, my legs shaking due to little exercise.

I flapped my wings wide, trying to get a picture of what was going on. The people were pushed back an inch, except the large one.

"We have to restrain her, she might fly away if give her the chance to. If she has any injuries we cant treat them." woodman said, only causing my to flap my wings again out of fear and nervousness, pushing them back even further.

"I'm sorry, this is for your own good. I promise." the guy with the scarf said. I was confused until, my wings felt movement in the air, my eye's widened in understanding. The scarf wrapped around me, wrapping my wings around me. With my wings restricted, I only got glimpses of the cell.

"No! No! Please, no! I can't see! I can't see! Let me go!" I said as loudly as I could, but it still came out quiet. I struggled against the bindings, crying out of my useless eyes.

"Is she okay? She doesn't look too well. We need get her some medical help as soon as possible." someone said. I stopped struggling, knowing it was hopeless.

I felt them taking me somewhere, but being oblivious to my surrounding, I had no idea where we're going. We walked in silence for a while until the third person spoke up.

"What's your name young girl?" the gruff voice said, but it sounded kind of familiar I just couldn't place it.

"Hotaru" I whispered. I hadn't been asked what my name was for years. I was mostly just called test subject, her, and the girl. I felt weird saying it, but right at the same time?

"Okay, Hotaru! My name is All Might! We'll keep you safe, and help is on the way!" All Might said, the All Might. That's why his voice sounded familiar, I used to love watching videos about him with my best friend, Mina. She was the only one who liked me at school, and the only friend I ever had.

We were both seven when we met. I was sitting on a bench, watching everyone else play at recess, and she walked up to me and asked if I wanted to play with her. I said yes, and that was the most fun I've ever had. Me and Mina were best friends for 5 years, until my father sold me off. She was the only one who knew what I was going through, and the only one who excepted me as I was.

I've thought of her everyday, wishing I could just tell her what was happening. Then maybe we would've still been friends. I hope she's made some other friends, who'll take care of her. She was super nice to everyone, but kind of a danger to herself. She would always run into things, and fall over for no reason. I smiled a little at the warm thought.

I snapped back to attention as police sirens came into earshot. I heard talking, but it was indistinguishable. (Look at that big word I fit in ;D)

"Hey, Midnight. Could you help us for a second?" I heard scarf-head say. I wonder who Midnight is. I was about to ask when they can untie me, but a sudden drowsiness hit me. Whelp, I guess you can only evade sleep for so long. I hope this wasn't just a dream, maybe I could see clouds! My thoughts became fuzzy as the sleeping gas kicked in, dragging me into unconsciousness.
