With a start, Moonpaw awoke. "...Oonpaw! Wake up!" Lightningkit hissed in her ear. "You're clawing up your nest!" Rainpaw mewed. "Moonpaw, are you alright?" Petalpaw asked. Moonpaw shook herself and stood up. "Er, I'm awake. Sorry for bothering everyone," Moonpaw mewed, sheepishly.

A few cats muttered that it was alright and Petalpaw gave her some soothing licks. Pikepaw hissed at Petalpaw and murmured something comforting about bad dreams but Moonpaw wasn't really listening. She was still thinking about her dream last night.

All throughout the day, Moonpaw felt like she was going through the motions. She wasn't focusing during a morning hunt and only caught a magpie and a water shrew for Mosspelt and the kits.

"You're lucky its only me, but Kestrelflight will be in here soon," Mosspelt meowed. "I don't blame you really, but Leaf-bare might come at any moment and you're one of the best hunters among the apprentices." The queen sighed. "In better news, Featherkit and Stormkit will be six moons in just a few days." Moonpaw flicked her tail happily at the thought of having more paws in the apprentices den.

Moonpaw nodded and stepped out of the nursery, whiskers quivering to make sure she didn't step on one of the kits.

Suddenly she scented Owlsight and Whitecloud was stepping towards her. "I've spoken with Leopardfur and you, Primrosepaw, Silverpaw & Petalpaw will be coming to the gathering," Owlsight meowed, Moonpaw nodded weakly. "Are you alright, Moonpaw?" Whitecloud mewed. "Perhaps you should get help from Mudfur." Owlsight gave her a soothing lick between the ears.

Moonpaw shook her head. "I'm not sick, I'm just... tired." Owlsight sighed as if she guessed there was more to the story. "Get some rest before we leave, then," Owlsight mewed. "It's alright to be tired, Moonpaw, we are on the precipice of Leaf-bare," Whitecloud meowed cheerfully, and the two warriors strode away.

Moonpaw treaded back towards the apprentices den, she wasn't particularly tired but there wasn't anything else to do. "Moonpaw? Are you alright?" Reedpaw asked. She nodded feebly and walked towards her nest.

When she fell asleep, Moonpaw dreamt she was standing in the forest, it was a vibrant green she had never seen before. She breathed in the heavy scent of leaves.

There was a sand-coloured queen with three kits beneath her. They all shared her mismatched eyes; one green eye, one brown. A familiar scent lingered around a kit with pink markings. Moonpaw walked towards the group and caught a scent of sadness coming from the golden queen who was slowly fading away.

Moonpaw was suddenly shaken awake by Petalpaw. "Come on, Moonpaw! It's time to go to the Gathering," Petalpaw  purred, her voice softer than honey. Moonpaw stood up, whiskers twitching to avoid standing on Petalpaw's tail.

Once out of the den, Petalpaw guided Moonpaw to where the cats going to the Gathering were congregating. Petalpaw and Moonpaw stood near the back of the group. Primrosepaw and Silverpaw were already there.

"So, what's it like to be a medicine cat?" Petalpaw asked Silverpaw. "Oh! it's good, mostly just collecting herbs..." Silverpaw mewed distractedly. "It's fairly boring but I like it." Moonpaw stifled a yawn and sharpened her claws on the ground.

"Come," came Crookedstar's call from the front of the procession. "It is time." Moonpaw stood up and she felt a tail on her flank. "Moonpaw, would you like me to guide you on the way to Fourtrees?" Petalpaw asked, shyly. Perhaps it had been any other cat Moonpaw would have refused, but even if she would never admit it she appreciated the help.
