It has already been a week to Irum since she joined the university and her bond with Ayesha has strengthened so much that not only she found a sister in her but also a best friend.
She talks to Areeba and her family whenever she gets free time but her primary goal is her studies. It was a normal Saturday afternoon and Ayesha went out to buy some ingredients for her mother's bakery as Mr. Zohaib was busy in his work. Irum decided to head down to the bakery to help Ms. Yasmeen as she was being bored at home. The bakery which was also a cafe was near the apartment in which she lived, across the street and by now Irum gained this much confidence that she could go alone to bakery.
She wrapped her chocolate brown hijab as she was wearing brown skirt and black sweatshirt.
She entered the bakery and as usual on Saturday it was crowded. Her eyes landed on Ms. Yasmeen who was working really hard and that's when she realized that life of a woman in foreign country is really tough. She is equivalent to a man. Her efforts are same as a man does. In her country it's the tradition that women mostly do the job of house wife and it's the responsibility of a man to earn and feed the family. It surely has both pros and cons.
"Auntieeee.", Irum said and stood beside Ms. Yasmeen.
"What happened dear, u want something?", Ms. Yasmeen asked.
"Yes auntie I want to help u. U have been working since morning and u must be tired.", she said and Ms. Yasmeen smiled coz the thought of her showing care for her pleased her heart. Ms. Yasmeen did neglect but Irum's constant persuasion made Ms. Yasmeen change her decision. So she took Irum inside the kitchen and made her wash hands and wear an apron. Ms. Yasmeen was really sensitive about cleanliness and the kitchen although they had been baking cakes, pies, and pastries since morning looked crystal clear without any spot. That was also the reason why Ms. Yasmeen's bakery was famous in Seoul.Irum wore the apron and Ms. Irum guided a girl to help her as she could speak English among all the staff.
"Hello, my name is Kim Yerin.", the girl spoke.
"Hello, my name is Irum Shahid.", Irum replied. The girl smiled and said,
"U r ma'am's relative?"
"Yes I am."
"I see, I will help u with the work and if u find any issue ask me. I have been working here since past 3 years.", she said which kinda impressed Irum.
"Ms. Yerin, u look elder than me and as I am learning Korean culture I learned that it's rude to call a person by name who is elder than u, so what should I say u.", Irum spoke and Yerin smiled to see how polite and courteous Irum is.
"U can call me unnie.", Yerin replied and Irum nodded with a smile.Yerin was responsible of decorating the cakes and serving them on the plates. She was guiding Irum to assist her in setting up the plates and making proper trays for the customers as right now she thought that handling Irum the work of decoration won't be a good idea as she is new and might not know the basics.
Irum helped Yerin and together they did the work quickly. Irum turned out to be really helpful for Yerin who was also really busy since the morning in working. Hours passed and Irum didn't get the idea of time. But she enjoyed spending her time in the bakery.
It was 9 and time to close the bakery. When Yerin decorated the last cake and packed it in the box Irum asked,
"This one is the last one right?".
"Yes, last for today. Then we will be free.", Yerin replied.
"I swear unnie u work so hard. And the way u perfectly decorate cakes I wanna learn it too."
"Haha sure Irum, I will teach u whenever u will get free.", Yerin said and Irum clapped her hands. The staff started to clean the kitchen and close everything. They all came out and saw Ms. Yasmeen standing, she then started speaking in Korean,
"Good job everyone, u all worked really hard. Now rest on Sunday then we all will meet once again on Monday. Take care.", she said and Yerin whispered in her ear,
"She is appreciating us.", and Irum made an 'O' face.
