After that day, Chay tried several things to make Kim happy like a lovesick puppy who needs his owner’s attention.

Even tried to engage him in conversations about his work like on one of those adult topics which he obviously never understood.

However, Kim’s responses remained clipped and distant, if he responded at all.

Kim became more immersed in his work, often shutting himself in his office for long hours. He would leave the house early in the morning before Chay woke up and return late at night after Chay had gone to bed.

The distance between them only seemed to grow, and the sadness in Chay's eyes deepened with each passing day.

One evening, as Kim sat in his office, he couldn’t ignore the guilt gnawing at him any longer. He knew he was pushing Chay away, but he struggled to balance his overwhelming need to protect Chay with the affection he still felt for the younger. He decided it was time to take a step toward mending their unnamed relationship.

The next day, Kim went back to their old house and retrieved Chay's guitar, the one he used to play so passionately. He hoped that bringing it back might help bridge.

That evening, as Chay sat on the couch, staring blankly at the TV, Kim walked in with the guitar. Chay’s eyes widened in surprise as he saw the familiar instrument.

“Hey, Chay,” Kim said softly, trying to keep his voice steady. “I brought something for you.”

Chay looked at the guitar, then up at Kim, a mix of surprise and confusion on his face. “You brought my guitar back?”

“Yeah,” Kim replied, setting the guitar down gently next to Chay. “I thought maybe... maybe it could help you feel a bit better.”

Chay picked up the guitar, running his fingers over the strings. “I’ve missed this,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “Thank you, Phi.”

Kim sat down next to Chay, a heavy silence settling between them. After a moment, Kim spoke again. “I know things have been hard lately. Khotod na if I’ve made you feel trapped or alone. I just... I’m trying to keep you safe.”

Chay nodded. “I know you are, Phi. But I also need to feel like I can breathe. I miss how things used to be.”

Kim sighed, looking down at his hands. “I miss it too, Chay. I promise I’ll try to do better.”

Chay strummed the guitar softly, a small smile forming on his lips. “Thank you, Phi. I’ll keep trying too.”

Kim reached out and placed a hand on Chay’s shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze. “We’ll make it work, Chay. One step at a time.”

As Chay began to play a familiar tune on the guitar, the tension between them started to ease.
For the first time in weeks, they shared a moment of genuine connection.

Kim was teaching Porchay, just like before. He smiled at his adorable Nong, who was staring at his fingers with intense concentration, like a hawk eyeing its prey.

As Chay tried to grab the guitar back from him, Kim took his hand instead, gently placing it underneath his own to guide Porchay. Chay, oblivious to his Phi’s soft touch, felt a warm flush creep up his neck, his skin turning a faint shade of red.

Kim softly caressed Chay's wrist and murmured, "Sorry, one more time, for hurting you."

This time, Porchay didn’t say anything but simply smiled, his eyes reflecting a mix of forgiveness and affection. Then he decided too

"It’s okay, Phi. I know you didn’t mean to," he whispered.

Kim’s smile widened, and he leaned in closer. "You’re too good to me, Chay," he said softly, his breath warm against Chay’s cheek.

Just as Kim was about to continue, the door to the room swung open. Mitchelle walked in, a tablet in his hands, his eyes glued to the screen as he headed straight for Kim’s office. Kim cleared his throat, breaking the moment.

Mitchelle looked up from the tablet, his eyes widening in shock. He quickly bowed his head towards Kim, his face flushed with embarrassment. "Khun Kim?," he stammered, "I didn’t realize you were here."

Kim frowned, his expression hardening. "What the hell is wrong with you, Mitchelle?"

Mitchelle shook his head, his voice trembling slightly. "I was going to show you the new security unit Big mentioned. But there's something off about them. They’re sent by the Minor Family."

Kim rubbed his temples in frustration and stood up from Chay’s side, patting his hair reassuringly. "I'll be back. Don’t do anything stupid while I’m gone."

Chay pouted, his cheeks puffing out in mock annoyance. "Phi, I am not a dog!"

Kim chuckled, ruffling Chay’s hair. "But you are my puppy."

"Phi!" Chay’s face turned a deeper shade of red, a mix of embarrassment and affection.

"Okay, okay," Kim said, holding up his hands in surrender. "Just be careful, alright?"

Chay nodded, his eyes following Kim as he left the room, a sense of longing and worry mingling in his chest.

As Kim walked out, he glanced back one more time, meeting Chay's gaze with a reassuring smile.

Mitchelle, still flustered, hurriedly explained, "Big instructed me to review the credentials of the new security unit. But I fear they might be compromised. The Minor Family has a history of infiltration."

Kim’s expression grew serious. "We can’t take any chances. I’ll need to see this for myself. Follow me."
