Bellamy's Pov:
Bed rest sucks. Like a lot. So, I did something about it. I started to walk around the camp for something to do. And it's not like it hurts that much anymore. It's been two or three days since I got shot.
That's when I saw her. My heart shattered when I saw her. A girl, no older than 12, was sitting by a tree sobbing. I've always had sort of a soft spot for kids because of Octavia.
I jogged over to her, ignoring the throbbing pain in my stomach. I crouched down next to her and rubbed her shoulder. "Hey, what's wrong?" I asked gently.
She looked up at me with her big innocent eyes that were filled with tears. "I miss my family.." she said quietly, and my heart broke for her even more. So, I wrapped my arms around her.
"It's alright, they'll come down soon. I'm sure of it," I said.
"They're dead. They got floated," she said, sobbing even more.
"I'm sorry. I know how you feel," I said, "what's your name?"
"Charlotte," she replied in between her sobs.
"Well, Charlotte, my name is Bellamy. Think of me as your friend, okay? I'll keep you safe," I told her, giving her one last squeeze. I started to get up, and I helped her up.
"Thank you," she said before jumping into my arms once more.
I chuckled. "You're welcome. Feel free to talk to me whenever," I said before walking away.
Murphy came up to me. "Going soft, Blake?" He sneered.
"Shut it, Murphy. She's only a kid," I retorted, "how's the fence coming along?"
"It's just about finished. We're just working on the gate. We have some people making tools and weapons now that we're just about done," he said.
I was proud of the rag-tag group of criminals. We are creating civilization with practically no help. "That's great. Make sure there are some barrels made so we can store water. Octavia found a lake, and we'll have a group go down there to collect some water once they're made," I said.
"Yes, Chancellor," he said sarcastically with a salute. What an idiot. I rolled my eyes at him, and he was off again.
I needed to find Octavia. I feel disgusting. I need to know where the lake is so I can bathe.
I caught sight of here and jogged over. "Octavia, tell me where the lake is," I demanded.
"It's west of here. Just follow the sound of running water. It is a short walk from here," Octavia said with an eyeroll. With that, I was off.
"You're welcome!" she called out.
___________________________It was only a half-hour walk from camp. And it was sure as hell worth it. No words could describe its beauty. I made my way over just to see someone already there. I placed a hand on my gun. Then I saw that it was just Clarke. She was drawing, and she was damn good at it.
"Nice drawing, Princess," I said. She jumped when she heard my voice and quickly closed her sketchbook.
"Thanks.." she muttered.
"Turn around," I said. I came here to clean up, and I was going to do so.
"Why?" She asked.
I sighed and said, "I'm trying to wash up damn it. Now, turn around for God's sake."
"Oh, alright," Clarke said shyly as she turned around. Her face was bright red. That's seems to happen a lot when she's around me, and I can't help but smile at the thought of me being the one to redden her cheeks.
I quickly undressed, leaving me only in my boxers. Then I trodged into the cool water. I cupped the water and poured it over my face. I could stay there forever. Then I looked to the girl awkwardly standing there with her back toward me and chuckled.
"I'm decent now, Princess. You should join me. Maybe the cold water will help you to stop being a priss," I told her with a laugh.
She looked at me and rolled her eyes. "It's your turn. Turn around, Blake," she said. I listened, of course. There was no telling what a girl like her would do if I didn't. She'd probably try to drown me or something.
Then I was being splashed by the cool water. Oh, it was so on. I turned around. "Did you just splash me, Clarke?" I asked, faking seriousness and anger.
"Yes.." she replied nervously. Good. She should be nervous because she is going down. "I'm sorry, it was just a joke," she apologized.
I went under after that. I then pulled her leg so that she would fall into the shallow water. She screamed and resurfaced. Fuming. But all I could do was stand there and laugh at her.
There was fire in her eyes. Game on, Princess. She tackled me into the water. And the play fighting went on for a little while until she managed to put me in a headlock, threatening to dunk me.
I held my hands up and released a sigh of defeat. "Okay, I surrender, Your Majesty," I said with faux sadness.
She let me go and started to cheer. That was the first time I've seen her so happy on this planet. And her smile was to die for.
I never wanted to leave. I never wanted to leave her and her gorgeous smiling face. But I should squash these "feelings" while I can. I have enough on my plate to worry about between leading, protecting O, and living with my cruel secret.
"I hate to cut this short, but we should head back," I said coldly.
Confusion flooded her face and.. pain? Then, as quickly as it came, it was gone. The stoic, serious, and unsmiling Clarke was back. She nodded, and we both got out of the water. I quickly got dressed. I glanced over at her before walking back to camp.
I'm definitely an idiot for ruining one of the only moments of fun I've had since I've been on this crappy planet. But I knew I was being smart for the long haul. I can't have anything getting in the way of protecting Octavia, especially not feelings for a girl who is into another guy. I would just be hurting myself, and I don't deserve to be hurt anymore.
A/N: OMG a swimming scene?? I'm so creative, I've NEVER seen it done before. 😂
