Becky was outside with a glass of whiskey when I finally found her. "Here you are," I sighed sitting next to her on the steps.
"Freen, don't sit on the step, you will get your dress dirty." Becky smiled pulling me onto her lap. "That's better," she muttered holding me close to her.
"What happened with Alex?"
"he didn't like the fact I said no to his sister when she propositioned me again at the bar," Becky glared. "I should have apparently been honoured that someone like Jane would even want to waste a single second on me."
"Alex said that?" I was upset. Did I even know Alex?
"Yeah," Becky whispered placing her head on my shoulder. "Why him Freen?"
"What do you mean?"
"I don't trust him. You need to be careful, Freen. I . . ."
"Becky, we are not having this conversation. Please," I replied trying to get up off her lap, but she held me tighter.
"Freen . .I . ." Becky was trying to find the words but couldn't. I rested my head against her chest in comfort instead.
"That's what people with money are like, Becky. Trust me, they are all the same. The money goes to their head. They look down on the less fortunate. . . . . I really don't think it is a good idea you playing at my birthday."
"I want to," she muttered into my chest. "I told you. I want to see you on your birthday. I don't care who will be there. All I will see is you."
"You won't even be able to speak to me."
"I don't care . . . . I'm playing at your birthday party."
I put my hands through her hair and sighed. "You are not making this easy on yourself. I'm worried about you."
"Why?"
"I don't want to hurt you, but I can see I already am," I whimpered. Becky looked up at me, her green eyes were piercing.
"I would rather hurt than not see you. Freen, don't end this, not yet."
"I couldn't end this now, even if I knew it was the right thing to do," I cried, pressing my lips against her. Becky pulled me closer to her. Her hands ran up my neck into my hair.
"BECKY!" Jake called. "What the hell were you playing at with Alex Chen? You do realise he is the son of one of the richest business men in New York?"
"he insulted me. I wasn't going to take it whether she was rich or not." Becky glared still holding me on her lap.
"Did you even listen to me earlier?"
"I'll talk to Alex, Jake. It will be fine," I commented, trying to calm things down. "It won't happen again. I'm really sorry."
"Are you enjoying this, having everyone fighting over you, Freen?" Jake spat.
"Jake, seriously you need to stop shouting at Freen." Becky yelled. "None of this was her fault."
"All this is her fault. She never should have brought her rich ass into this nightclub," Jake yelled.
Becky was up in a flash, moving me from her lap. I tried to grab her arm, but she was too fast. Becky pushed Jake hard against the wall.
"STOP IT," I yelled pulling Becky off Jake. "I'm going to go home."
"No," Becky put her hand on my face. "Don't go like this. Please Freen."
I smiled at her. "I meant I would wait at your flat. I need your keys." Becky relaxed instantly as she reached in her pockets for her keys. "Please don't fight because of me. Jake is just looking out for you," I whispered as I took her keys. "I'll see you at home in a bit." Becky nodded. I could see all the fury in her eyes had already gone.
