POV: Ayan
"Sir, do you want to know what I saw?" Collen barged in, his face mischievous and his tone sly. "Not now, Collen," I cut him off bluntly, hoping he'd take the hint and leave me be. "I saw someone pick up Ayat ma'am." I was on the verge of losing my temper with Collen, but I managed to ask, "Who was it?""I don't know, but I did get the number plate of his car. Would you want to visit Ayat ma'am, sir?" I rarely passed up an opportunity to see her. "It's quite an upscale place," Collen remarked, his eyes scanning the luxury cars around us. Meanwhile, I found myself eyeing a McLaren 720s before a sudden blow from a bat forced me to crouch down.
"You! I told you—" The man yelled, "Why are you wearing a coat here?" I looked up to see Collen engaged in conversation with him. "I am sorry, sir, but you're mistaken—" Collen began, only to be cut off. "You're not him! I am so sorry, young man," the older man said, fetching a chair and an ice towel.
"Hey, take a seat," I complied. "So, are you here for a ride or to take a ride?" he quipped. "Are you Vernom?" I inquired, having learned about him from Collen's background check. "Are you Ayat's grandfather?" I asked, addressing the unspoken.
"So you are here for her, I see. No, I am not related to her at all," he said, preparing a glass of water. With a deeper voice, his expression turned serious, his gaze focused and intense as he continued. "It would be better if you excuse yourself from here. I don't think Ayat will like this," Vernom excused himself, taking the glass along.
However, luck was not on my side, Vernom went with us. I was anxious by the thought of Ayat misunderstanding the situation. She looked quite joyful when I first came into her sight. "Hey, how are you-" she said, avoiding her surroundings. Noticing my wounds, she let out enormous questions, one after the other. Before I could reply to her, Vernom showed up and answered her, making her look at me in confusion and leaving me in guilt. I stayed silent the whole time overthinking through all the possibilities of her rejecting me and hating me for this absurd behavior.
"Why were you there?" She asked, gazing straight into my eyes, looking for answers. Before I could let a word out, Collen stepped up with his dramatic self and apologized. "You thought it was a family member and decided to visit? Clearly knowing I am an orphan" I could feel her disappointment dropping on my skin. "I am sorry, I wanted to invite them for dinner-" I spoke with a lone tear escaping its way to her. With some awkward conversation, I dropped her off at Zara's place, the main home and left for mine to settle my mind.
POV: Ayat
"That's all for today?" Sumaiya asked, while Zara and I organised her medicine. "I will take my leave." It's been months since Ehaan started picking me up and dropping me off, without any conversation. Is he distancing himself? Shouldn't I be happy?"Such a lovely morning, right?" I attempted conversation, but he only nodded. "I—" I began, but we reached our destination. He dropped me off and drove away, leaving me alone in my thoughts. "Was that your boyfriend?" Mr. Liam's voice startled me, the criminal I had previously argued with.
"Why are you out and in my business?" I asked, annoyed by his presence. "Sir, you know you were discharged, right?" I queried, entering my cabin. "I left months ago, darling, but I can't stay away. I have to see you every day." His words stung me to the point that I'd rather be a murderer than treat scumbags like him.
"I'll be polite for the last time, get out of here," I commanded. I wished to call the cops, but it would harm the hospital and might reinforce upper authorities' suspicions of an affair.
"Gladly, however, under one condition, would you go out with me?" I lost control and slapped him hard not thinking about the consequences. "One more rubbish, and I am going to kill you" I feared nothing. "Are you sure about this? This slap might fall heavy on you." I gulped in fear. I mean, he had his ways being a ruthless gangster but he He with a smile plastered on his face and a whisper behind, but I couldn't care less.
"Later that night, 'Hey, Dr. Noor? Dr. Ryan needs you," I hurried to him, knowing he only called during emergencies or when I was about to lose my medical license.
