"wrost feeling? Being betrayed by someone you never imagined"
~S.R~Aanya's Internal Struggle
Not everything goes as planned. At some point, a person’s own soul can betray them, shattering them into pieces that seem impossible to fix. Aanya felt this truth acutely, her emotions betraying her with feelings for Austin she couldn’t shake, even as she tried to push them away.
But that wasn’t all. Her soul returned with the nightmares she had thought were behind her, bringing back the chilling memories of terror that had haunted her a month ago. These nightmares tore her apart, shattering her piece by piece.
The Nightmares
In her dreams, Aanya often found herself lost in a dark, foreboding forest, chased by an unseen predator. The chilling air wrapped around her like a suffocating blanket, and she was acutely aware of the stillness of the night. Everyone was asleep, but she couldn't close her eyes; something was lurking just beyond her line of sight.
Her heart raced as she ran, the sound of footsteps echoing in her ears like a sinister drumbeat. She held her breath, desperate to muffle the sound of her racing heart, fearing that the predator would catch her with every step she took. Each rustle of leaves felt amplified, each snap of a twig sent shivers down her spine.
Hiding behind a tree, she felt the cold sweat drip down her brow, and her lungs screamed for air. The fear of being caught consumed her, and when the predator finally whispered, “I catch you,” with a twisted grin, it felt like her heart would leap from her chest. The crushing terror made it hard to breathe, as if someone had cut off her oxygen.
Aanya jolted awake, drenched in sweat, her body wracked with the effort of finding air. Each inhale was a struggle, her chest rising and falling rapidly as she fought against the remnants of her nightmare.
Other Dreams
Yet, it wasn’t only the nightmares that plagued her sleep. Sometimes, she dreamt of a princess who radiated a divine aura, her eyes glimmering with a fierce yet gentle strength. This warrior princess, a beacon of vengeance turned sweetness, danced gracefully with a man—a majesty—at a grand ball.
The scene was always blurry, the faces distorted and indistinct, but those eyes remained clear. They spoke of royalty, of battles fought and won, of love found amidst chaos. Aanya couldn’t decipher the meaning behind these dreams, nor could she escape the fear that clung to her like a shadow, reminding her of the nightmares that always returned.
The Weight of Fear
Every love story doesn’t get a happy fairytale ending, and Aanya feared this truth for herself and Austin. Would she be able to confront her feelings, or would she remain silent, shackled by the weight of her nightmares? The idea of confessing her emotions terrified her, the thought of vulnerability sending her heart into a panic.
What if someone discovered her secrets? What if they deemed her abnormal? The fear of being judged, of being seen as overly dramatic or too emotional, loomed large in her mind. She worried that revealing herself would drive people away, leaving her isolated and misunderstood.
Aanya felt the burden of this fear pressing down on her, making it difficult to move forward. Would she risk everything to explore her emotions and confront her nightmares, or would she continue to hide, caught in a cycle of fear and uncertainty? The choice felt insurmountable, and the haunting question lingered: could she ever find the strength to embrace her truth, or would she remain trapped in the shadows of her own making?
