CHAPTER EIGHT, our happy ending

When the celebration was over, Kaila found herself at the spot she and Carlos had their first date. She sat on the swing over the water, swinging gently back and forth, the faint sound of music from the celebration echoing in the distance. Carlos joined her, sitting close, their hands finding each other naturally. The moon cast a soft glow over the water, creating a serene atmosphere.

They were quiet, but comfortable. The celebration was still going strong. They could hear the music and laughter carried through the night, but it was a bit distant. Neither of them could be bothered to go back just yet. Their eyes met and they smiled at each other.

"What're you thinking about?" Carlos asked her. His thumb was drawing small circles on the back of her hand. He was staring at her so softly, and his touch sent shivers down her spine. Kaila looked away, smiling shyly as she leaned against his shoulder.

"You." She whispered, a light blush tinting her cheeks.

Carlos smiles at her softly, and pulls her close. He wraps his arm around her, pulling her so that she's laying against him, her legs draped across his lap. He kisses her forehead and rests his cheek on top of her head. "Good things, I hope?" He said, his tone teasing.

Kaila tilts her head slightly to look up at Carlos, his features illuminated softly by the moonlight. His eyes held a depth of affection that made her heart flutter. "Very good things." She replied with a soft chuckle, her fingers tracing absent-minded patterns on his arm.

Carlos smiles warmly, his hand gently brushing her hair. "I'm glad." He said, his tone soft and loving. He gazed down at her, his eyes full of adoration. He couldn't believe how lucky he was. How had he gotten so lucky to have her as his girlfriend? He had no idea, but he was grateful every day that she had chosen him.

"You're staring." Kaila pointed out, her lips curling upwards in amusement. She was laying on her back now, her head resting comfortably on his chest, his hand still playing with her hair. She loved the feeling of his fingers running through her hair. It was so soothing.

"Because you're so beautiful." He said, his voice husky with emotion. "I can't believe how lucky I am." His voice was barely a whisper. "How did I get so lucky to have you as my girlfriend?"

Kaila blushes at that and sits up, her eyes meeting his. She could see the affection and adoration shining brightly in his eyes. Her heart raced and her breath caught in her throat. His words made her feel so loved. She smiles softly and leans in, pressing a gentle kiss to his lips. "I think the real question is: How did I get so lucky?"

Carlos smiles into the kiss and cups her face, his fingers lightly tracing her jawline. "I don't know," He murmurs, his voice filled with warmth. "But I'm grateful every day that you're mine."

Kaila smiles softly, her eyes sparkling with happiness. "I'm grateful too." She said, her tone matching his. "I love you, Carlos."

Carlos' heart skips a beat. He loves the way his name sounds on her lips. He loves the way she looks at him. He loves everything about her. "I love you, too, Kaila."

They sit there, gazing into each other's eyes. The sound of laughter and music from the celebration is muffled and distant, but neither of them are bothered by it. The only thing that matters right now is them. Their eyes shine with love and their hearts race with happiness. His hand continues to caress her cheek, their fingers intertwined as they lean in for another kiss, sealing their moment under the moonlit sky, where time seems to stand still for their love. He couldn't imagine being anywhere else right now. He had never felt so happy or so complete. He didn't think it was possible to love someone so much.

Carlos was so happy and content in this moment, he knew without a doubt that this was what true happiness was like. This was where he belonged. With her. Forever. He didn't think his heart could possibly hold anymore love. But then again, when it came to her, his heart was always bigger than he thought.

"This is the happiest I've ever been." Kaila said, her voice barely a whisper. She was so overwhelmed by the love she felt for him. It was unlike anything she had ever felt before. She couldn't believe how happy she was. She didn't think it was possible to love someone as much as she loved him. "I love you."

Carlos smiles softly, his eyes shining with love. "I never been this happy before either, I love you too. So much." Both of his hands cup her face, his eyes locked onto hers. He's the one to lean in for a kiss first. She didn't hesitate to kiss him back, her fingers tangling in his hair. It was soft and sweet, yet full of passion. They pull apart after a few moments, their eyes shining with happiness and their hearts full of love. They stayed like that, their foreheads pressed together, their hands clasped, gazing into each other's eyes and basking in the warmth of their love. It was a moment they would always remember. A moment that would be burned into their memories forever. And a moment that would make them realize just how lucky they were to have each other.

"I've always wanted a moment like this. One where time seems to stand still and the whole world fades away and there's just the two of us. One where I can look into your eyes and see my future reflected in them." Carlos whispered, his thumb brushing against her cheek. Kaila smiled softly at his words. She felt the same way. She could see her future with him, and it was a bright and happy one. She couldn't wait to spend the rest of her life with him. She couldn't imagine being anywhere else other than with him.

"Me too." Kaila whispers back, her eyes shining with happiness and her heart full of love. "I want to have moments like this forever. Moments where we can just be us. Where nothing else matters but us. Where we can forget about the rest of the world and just be lost in our own little world."

Carlos smiles softly and places a tender kiss on her forehead. "That sounds perfect." He murmurs, his voice barely above a whisper. "I want to spend the rest of my life having moments like this with you too."

Kaila blushes and leans into his touch, feeling the warmth of his love enveloping her. She gazes up at Carlos, her heart swelling with affection. "I love you so much, baby." She said, her voice filled with sincerity.

Carlos returns her gaze, his eyes soft and full of adoration. "And I love you, sweetheart. More than words can ever express."

They lean in for another kiss, and they lose themselves in the moment, their hearts full of love and their souls intertwined. They were so in love, and they knew they would be for the rest of their lives. Nothing could ever tear them apart.

"Thank you for choosing me." Carlos said, his voice barely above a whisper. "Thank you for letting me have my happily ever after with you. I love you."

"There's no one else I would rather spend the rest of my life with. You're my happily ever after too, C. So thank you for that. I love you too, more than anything." Kaila replied softly, her eyes reflecting the depth of her emotions.

They sat there together, wrapped in each other's arms, amidst the gentle swing of the swing over the water, under the serene moonlit sky. The night was theirs, filled with love, laughter from the celebration echoing in the distance, and the promise of a future where they would continue to cherish each other deeply. Time seemed to stand still as they held onto each other, grateful for the love they shared and the moments like these that made their bond even stronger.

As they leaned into each other, whispering words of love and devotion, they knew that this was where they belonged — side by side, hearts entwined, in their own perfect world. Carlos never thought he would be here, in Auradon with a girl he loves so much he couldn't describe it. And the best part? She loves him too, and they plan on being together for a long time. He never thought he could get a happily ever after since he was a child of a villain, but she changed all that. He is happy. Happier than he has ever been. And he knows it's going to be that way for a very long time. Because Kaila is his happily ever after, and he is her happily ever after, and that's all that matters.
