♧ Chapter 7 ♧

Hours have passed and it was reaching late afternoon. The exam was almost over as there was one last test for everyone before getting chosen by a squad. The exams went by smoothly for y/n, Koji, Kaito and Yuno--others as well but that's no big deal.

Y/n was right, the exam consisted of only testing out everyone's magic to see how good and skilled each are. The boy Asta didn't even pass one test-how pitiful really. Having a devil and not being able to use its magic is just disappointing.

As everyone settled down, the last test was ready. "And now for the finals, we would like to see your combat skills. Everyone choose a partner to duel!" A guard shouted. Not even thinking twice about the man's words, people were already claiming their partner.

Y/n wanted to partner up with her brother or best friend but turns out the two were going against eachother. Nothing too surprising, the rivalry between them was like no other! Y/n brushed it off and continued her search, her eyes landing on the magicless boy.

I suppose I could fight him. He's weak..

"Ah-Asta!"

"Asta!"

Another voice spoke loudly, having y/n's voice shutting down. A blonde haired male who stuck with Asta since the beginning came up to him. "How about you and I partner up?" He spoke with a sly grin. The guy looked annoying to be honest.

"Wow really!? You'd really do that for me!" Asta smiled widely before having some playful tears dwell up. "Haha, of course!" The blonde dude replied with a weird laugh. But, there goes her partner.

Y/n groaned loudly before going on a search again. She asked a couple of people who were singled out but they all refused which made her irritated. Tch-thats annoying. She thought to herself. Letting out a sigh of defeat, y/n walked back to the shade and leaned against one of the many pillars.

"Need a partner?"

A male voice spoke up causing the woman to jolt in surprise, she nearly fell! Looking over to the speaker, she was even more surprised. It was Seon. Seon was a male she had met during the other tests, he was pretty chill and nice. Y/n looked him up and down and nodded in which he offered to team up. She couldn't possibly refuse such an offer(especially since nobody else was going to do it). Accepting it, seon nodded and sat on the floor beside her.

"I hope you all found your partners, yes?" One of the captains spoke up. It was William Vangeance--captain of the Golden Dawn. "As our final test, each of you will fight with the selected person. Magic is a very reliable and useful source. This duel is allowed of your magic, and feel free to not hold back. We have recovery mages on standby for any of the injured. One person wins when either their opponent is unable to continue or pleaded "I give up". I wish you all the best of luck"

And with that, the Captain sat back down before gesturing to the guards to start. The guards began to speak about how each round will go. The first contestants...Asta and--the blonde weirdo.

The two walked towards the center of the arena. "Hey man, let's try our best and no dirty tricks alright?" Asta spoke with a smile as he reached his hand out to the blonde guy. The man looked at his hand before slapping it away. "Haha! This is my time to shine! Choosing the only boy with no magic will be an easy win for me! Now I can finally stand in the spotlight--I can get the attention of those captains when they see me defeat you! I'll be wanted by all by the end of this fight."

The blonde laughing guy spoke in such a disgraceful and cocky way it made y/n want to puke and slap him. But it's Asta's opponent so it's non of her business as to what happens. The guard signals they can start and blonde jumped a bit back, creating distance from Asta who stood there in shock from his words.
