Megumi was a lonely soul, whose infancy was neglected throughout his childhood. But he found a love which saved him. The love of his family which endured all the wars and battles against other humans who chased them down.

Suguru loved Megumi like his own child. He placed a veil of affection upon him for all he's lived. He didn't want him to succumb in his own thoughts and ideals and end up on a path with a dead end, like he did. They bonded over their own emotions - a bond similar to one of a mother's and a child's, for an unspoken understanding between them which revolved around the pure hatred towards other humans.

After the incident from the movie set, that hatred returned freshly motivated and stronger than ever. But it was too early for Megumi to go down the path of utter prayers and trials for humanity's downfall. He was still so young.

"You're a wise kid, Megumi, so make good use of that. I know you hate it, I know you want revenge, but don't end up like me. Ever. Please."

"But..."

"I can't forgive those who hurt me. That's what you're thinking, is it not?"

"But the devil turned me into a weapon... "For money" he said... He got his money. And I got cheated out of my childhood..."

"I..."

"And I still can't get revenge?"

"But you did... The devil is gone now."

"But what if there are other devils?"

"There will always be other devils, but you'll train to overcome them. That's how you become stronger."

"But no matter how strong I am, there will always be others devils, right?"

"You're right... But you're still so young to think that..."

"I just don't understand what reason is there to live if you know there's always devils surrounding you."

"Megumi... You're so young to-"

"But he didn't care about that, did he?"

Megumi's voice started shaking from the cold sorrow it carried and the tears that followed every phrase. He was so little in comparison with the grandiose feelings he had.

"You're right, he didn't. It's really not fair, I know. But we simply cannot stare at our wounds forever, because that would hurt us even more. And if you don't know what to live for, wait until you'll find a reason to live. You will eventually. I'm sure about that.
Look, if I'm not gonna be around for much longer and you don't know who to talk to, you can always write about your feelings. You like reading, right? You can make your own story!"

"With no devils?"

"Of course. No devils."

But the devils then turned into curses as Megumi grew up. Usually fantastic creatures aren't as scary as people because even though they are physically more powerful, they don't have deep and twisted motives behind their actions. But curses were just as scary, because they are born from the human mind.

"What do you mean if I'm not gonna be around for much longer?"

"You... will understand when you're older..."

Then the time passed. Megumi grew fond of writing and channeled his inner voice into pen and paper. But he understood what Suguru meant by "not around for much longer." Now he stood before his grave. But being loved by a writer means you live forever, and Megumi wrote hundreds of pages about his family.

2018, the fight between Sukuna and Gojo:

And then even more time passed. Now Megumi was laying on the ground, looking at the dips in his thumb muscles and realised that he's a real physical person that exists outside the perception he had of himself, outside the lines he wrote on paper. The one moment he realised he wasn't a sad story, he was alive. Yet he was captive in Sukuna's abyss where he could do nothing but watch the world collapse due to his own body's actions and preach for the end of it all. He remembered when Suguru told him to wait for the next reason to live if he'd lost the current one, but now time couldn't offer him that anymore.

Near the end of the two greatest sorcerers' fight, Sukuna looked down with a sneer.

"Is that all you have?"

Satoru looked back at him in disbelief. It was less shame than horror that assaulted him at that moment. Sukuna's voice was despised and sick and twisted by him, yet it held some kind of innocence under it. It was painful as only the voice of his son could be painful. After all, the body Sukuna possessed was still Megumi's.

But what is so special about these bodies? Why do we grieve over them when their spirits never leave us? Why did the bodies of the people Satoru loved the most become the weapons against him himself? Because he fell in love with a war. He fell in love with the uneasiness of being loved and the false hope that someday, he will find himself on the wedding altar, marrying Suguru and taking care of his two children that he loved so much. No matter what they were right now, if you'd see the love Satoru had for them, you'd love them too.

Satoru died in that very moment.

***

Why are you crying, Satoru? Is it because you couldn't protect everyone? Or is it because they didn't care? Who are you? If you couldn't fight until the end, what other reason is there to justify your worth, other than strength? But if you were to give up on being "the strongest", you wouldn't know how to be alive. Now you ended up here.

"If I can not be be needed, let me be used until there is nothing left of me", but do you find enjoyment in the idea that no matter what shape or form you are brought in as, you will be used as a weapon until nothing but dust?
The worst sin is that you have destroyed and betrayed yourself for nothing.

The four members of the family - even if it wasn't by blood, the bond between them was stronger than most biological ones - ended up having the same fate of being turned into fatal vessels.

The kids were subjugated by fearful curses and the two lovers woke up with stitches on their foreheads, but with no control over their bodies.

The stitches represent stars which possibly represent thoughts. Satoru's stars are brighter than Suguru's, symbolizing that whoever's in control of Satoru has better intentions than whoever has control over Suguru.

Either way, no matter what the intentions were, fate still dragged them across this war and continued to use them as it pleased until they were completely worn out.

Projected as outcasts, they have now ceased utterly to be human beings.
