Ray cried for ten minutes in Sand’s arms and when he eventually returned to his senses, he suddenly felt like a fool. He raised his hand to wipe his face and pushed Sand away, turning his face and ignoring him.
“Alright, I’ve promised to give you the chance you want. Go where you need to be.”
Ray was prepared to throw out a few harsh words so Sand could learn the three obedience and four virtues, but as soon as he lifted his eyes and saw his pale face, the words in his mouth changed again.
“You’ve been a door god outside all night, that’s enough. I don’t need you to keep watch over me. I just bought this house and I’m not in the mood to move out. If you want to leave, you can.”
Of course, Sand wouldn’t leave.
He grabbed Ray’s hand and pulled him into his arms with a little force. Before Ray could open his mouth to curse, he kissed Ray’s forehead like a kitten, “I’m not sleepy. Did you just come out for breakfast? I’ll take you there first and go back to sleep after I return.”
Ray was caught off guard by the kiss. He wanted to scold him, but when he heard Sand’s offer, he thought it wouldn’t take long to eat breakfast and would be okay.
He was being dragged by Sand and was picky as he asked, “Where are you going? Just buy some soy milk and fried dough sticks then send me off.”
Sand smiled good-naturedly, “You’ll know when you reach.”
Ray thought that Sand was bringing him to a teahouse, but to his surprise, the car drove through a few streets and the roads on both sides became more and more familiar, eventually stopping at a wide roadside.
Looking to the left, there was a high school that had been built a long time ago, and to the right was a row of snack bars, all tucked under the shade of trees. There were tiny gateways with shop signs that were extremely old. These shops had been in business for several years.
“Leave the car.” Sand said.
Ray hesitated before pushing the door open.
Naturally, he was familiar with this place. It was the high school he attended with Sand. He spent three years here and Sand only transferred in during his third year. Whether it was one year or three, they had evening classes at that time and would come to this row of shops from the back gate to order late-night snacks.
He would even make a detour to avoid this street but now, Sand had brought him here.
Sand came over to hold his hand and said as he walked in, “I drove by here the other day and found that the wonton shop we used to go to in high school was still open, so I wanted to bring you here.”
Ray curled his lips. “How do you know I still like to eat wontons? Maybe I’ve changed to dumplings.”
Sand smiled and didn’t expose him.
He had caught Ray ordering wonton takeout a few days ago.
After sitting down, they realised that the owners of the shop were also the same couple back from when they were in high school. They had not seen them for ten years but the two had not changed much. They were still kind with a few more wrinkles on their faces.
