Everleigh and Josh leave her cottage and mount their horses, riding for the Castle, as fast as they can, wanting to take advantage of the dark night. As they ride, she is still unsure if she will be able to do this.
She doubts Jensen will listen to her, let alone talk to her, and she is worried that this will do more harm than good. Everleigh silently goes through everything that Josh has told her, wondering that if Jensen was truly in love with her, as Josh said, why then didn't he fight for her to stay?
Everleigh will admit that she was hurting when she left, but maybe if he had fought for her, she would've considered staying, even if it was just so she could be sure that leaving was what she really wanted. She knows she had made a rash decision, fueled solely by the hurt she was feeling at the time, and she should've waited until morning to make a more definitive decision with a more clear head, but at the time it seemed like the only decision to make.
Everleigh remembers how Jensen didn't even try to deny what she was saying, clearly agreeing with what she was saying. Or was he? She now wonders if, after all that Josh has told her, maybe Jensen didn't agree with her and just didn't fight because he was surprised by her decision and thought that this was what she wanted.
She shakes her head and tells herself that none of that matters now. All that matters is that she can make him understand that the Kingdom needs him and not this shell of a man that has taken his place. And is not just the Kingdom who needs him, but his brother and sister as well.
Everleigh looks to her side, Josh ridding right next to her, and thinks that it can't be easy for either Josh, or Mackenzie, to see Jensen like that, or even for Josh to come and find her, and ask for her help.
She was never close to Josh, their interactions being more contained than hers with Mackenzie, but they respected each other and overall liked one another. For Josh to be there, the man that seems to always be able to fix everything, asking for her help, it means that this is something even he can't fix.
Everleigh knows then that she will do whatever she can to help, even if that means losing her little slice of peace that she just left behind.
