Everleigh and Josh ride for the Castle, down the dirt roads and through the woods, his men escorting them and making sure the path ahead is safe. The sun is shining bright and Everleigh takes that as a good omen to what awaits her at the end of this road.

The plan is a simple one: Everleigh will arrive, escorted by Josh and his men, while Jensen and Mackenzie will wait for her in the Courtyard, ready to welcome her back with open arms. Jensen will then ask if she was successful and Everleigh will pretend to be both sad and disappointed when telling them that she wasn't, before they all move inside and to her room.

She knows she will have to put on her best sad face, not being very difficult seeing that she is sad to leave Lucia and the life she has built for herself in that village.

The gates of the Castle are now fast approaching and Everleigh knows it's time. Thinking of how it felt saying goodbye to Lucia, it's enough to bring tears to her eyes, but she shakes them away, wanting to be sad but not to the point of tears, that would just send the wrong message.

Josh had assured her that only Jensen and Mackenzie were going to be there. But he was sure that a few Ladies and Lords from Court would be milling around to try and catch any hint of something they can gossip about.

Everleigh knew all this and was prepared for it. What she wasn't prepared for was to see Lord Evans, along with the rest of the Lords that once belonged to the Private Council, in the Courtyard as well, albeit a few feet away from where Jensen and Mackenzie stood, giving her sour looks. She just needed to take one look at Jensen to know he wasn't happy they were there, but his eyes lit up when he saw her, a smile appearing on his lips, making her smile as well.

Everleigh pulls her horse into a stop and Jensen is immediately there to help her climb down, his hands gentle around her waist. She thanks him, curtsying to him, before giving him a small smile. Everything else went according to plan and soon enough they were entering her room, Mackenzie and Josh excusing themselves to give them some privacy, knowing smiles on both their faces as they walked away.

Jensen barely waited for the door to close behind them, before he pulled her close to him and kissed her, his anxiety of the last few days bleeding into the kiss. He had barely made it through these past few days, the wait for the right time, for the right plan, being almost too much for him.

He had thought more than once, over the course of those days, to just get on his horse and go see her. Thank God for Josh and Mackenzie who had stopped him and made sure to reassure him she would return to him.

Jensen had to be honest, he has thought that Everleigh would change her mind and he couldn't blame her if she did, not after all that time and all that happened. Just knowing she is willing to come back to him and give their relationship a second chance, makes him happier than he has ever been.

He feels her kissing him back with the same intensity and he is sure if they don't stop, they will go too far, and this is not how he wants this to happen. Not like this. Jensen pulls back and just stares at her, thinking how lucky he is to be given this second chance. Now all he needs to do is make sure he doesn't screws this up again.
