It's late one night, three days after her talk with Jensen. Everleigh just arrived home from the tavern and is looking forward to getting some rest, the tavern having been busy that night, when there's a knock on the door.
Everleigh grabs a dagger and hides it in the folds of her dress, before asking who's there, her heart thundering in her chest. When Josh's voice comes through the door, she can't help the breath that she lets go at the familiar voice.
She opens the door and lets him in, putting the dagger away, the movement catching Josh's eye and surprising him.
-"What are you doing here?" - She smiles at him.
-"I have a message for you from Jensen."
Josh smiles back and hands her a letter, as she signals for him to take a seat while she grabs a mug and pours some wine for him. Everleigh gives him the mug and sits down across from him, opening the letter. She quickly reads it and smiles, looking up at him.
-"Did you read it?"
-"I didn't, but Jensen told me the gist of it. Are you ready to return to the Castle?" - He smiles at her.
-"I am, but there's something I need to do first. Can we go in the morning?"
-"Sure. I will meet you here tomorrow morning, if that's what you want."
-"It is. What I need to do won't take long."
-"I will send word to Jensen about the change of plans and I'll be here in the morning to escort you to the Castle.
-"Thank you, Josh. Where are you staying for the night?"
-"My men and I will set up camp not far from the village." - He stands.
-"Thank you again, Josh. Truly."
She walks him to the door and watches him disappear into the night on the back of his horse, before going back inside, thinking that come morning her life will change once again.
