I CURRENTLY DISLIKE BIANCA, HOW COULD SHE JUST DECIDE TO LEAVE HER LITTLE BROTHER FOR THE HUNTERS?
Percy said, "Um... okay." When Artemis introduced herself.
That was nothing compared to Grover. He gasped, then knelt hastily in the snow and started yammering, "Thank you, Lady Artemis! You're so... you're so... Wow!"
"Get up, goat boy!" Thalia snapped. "We have other things to worry about. Annabeth is gone!"
"Whoa," Bianca said. "Hold up. Time out."
Everybody looked at her. She pointed her finger at all of us in turn, like she was trying to connect the dots. "Who... who are you people? We know Astra, but still."
Artemis's expression softened." It might be a better question, my dear girl, to ask who are you! Who are your parents?"
Bianca glanced nervously at her brother, who was still staring in awe at Artemis.
"Our parents are dead," Bianca said. "We're orphans. There's a bank trust that pays for our school, but..."
She faltered. I guess she could tell from our faces that we didn't believe her.
"What?" she demanded. "I'm telling the truth."
"You are a half-blood," The boy said. I had heard all about him. The boy who Artemis adopted and raised him as her own. Raised him to be a hunter, and became immortal at the age of eighteen. The story was that Artemis saw a man in the woods, stumbling and bleeding out. He had been protecting his son from a cyclops, that was trying to attack them. He was running from the cyclops, and ran into the woods where he came across Artemis and begged her to take his son. Artemis took pity on the man and agreed, from then on he's been the adopted son of Artemis.
It's said he's a son of Macaria, the goddess of blessed death. His name is Cassian. Cassian Mortensen. We made eye contact, even in the dark I could see his green eyes. Clear green, if that makes sense, not forest green but more so sage green.
Like an enchanted river.
It felt like the world stopped, when we made eye contact. He was fucking beautiful. He narrowed his eyes then looked away, and I saw his apple jack bobble.
Zoe spoke up after Cassian. "One of thy parents was mortal. The other was an Olympian."
"An Olympian... athlete?"
"No," Zoe said. "One of the gods."
"Cool!" said Nico.
"No!" Bianca's voice quavered. "This is not cool!"
Nico danced around like he needed to use the restroom. "Does Zeus really have lightning bolts that do six hundred damage? Does he get extra movement points for—"
I turned my attention to Nico, and smiled.
"Nico, shut up!" Bianca put her hands to her face. "This is not your stupid Mythomagic game, okay? There are no gods!"
