Erebon's POV
Sabrina sets out a picnic blanket by the garden in the sun with some shade from the witchwoods. Within half an hour, Noah, Alice and Sabrina are asleep for an afternoon nap.
Alphas had keen reading abilities and I immediately sensed heavy exhaustion in all three when the truth of Hans' demise was relayed to the girls. Obviously they had overheard gossip at Kayla's birthday party. It went over my head that they would find out the truth eventually. My mind was selfishly all about Sabrina and how I could impress her the next time and the next.
Everything about Sabrina compelled me to want to be around her 24/7. I loved her kind heart and even though she would overthink everything, I sensed her deep real need for loving and being loved. And I had all the love to give.
I guard her small family now, shifted to my wolf, patrolling the perimeter of the cabin, smelling the air and sensing zero threats.
Eventually I prance out to the long grass and lie down as my wolf, Sabrina and her girls in my line of sight, as well as the tree line.
I rest my head on my paws, feeling my heart ache with some turmoil. I reflect on the storm of my past, defining me now, giving me limitations with my mate.
I wasn't a loser Alpha. I was just different. I couldn't be any other way because I had to survive threats against my life since I was a teenager.
It changed Orpheus and I, seeing our sisters and parents murdered. I tried not to reflect on it because it only hurt and made me deeply depressed. Quillon, Laoch, Sascha and Zoran all had different stories of grief or hardship and being with them made me feel whole. Being with Sabrina was a different kind of whole – one where I felt in love but also lacking in everything she needed.
Yeah, I could fuck her and give her emotional and physical connection.
But everything else she craved; she had secured from Orpheus. So I failed her there.
It made me mad at myself, not at her.
I'm just glad she's so at peace right in this moment that she can sleep in the sun with me watching, trusting nothing will happen with me on guard.
I might be the most useless mate Sabrina could acquire as a replacement, but if I could do something better than any other wolf out there – it was in my ability to protect, guard and vanquish threats.
No matter the level of evil, nothing scared me – I could kill it.
And I would.
Every bear I could find involved in Wolf Trap's syndicate – I would end.
I'd kill every single one of them and keep their pelts for decoration.
I muse about the findings of our trapped bear last night in Firwood.
Orpheus had beaten the crap out of that bear and we did get some answers before he succumbed to an overdose. We lied to our omega.
We now knew Sabrina and her daughters were the primary targets last night.
We had not told her because her heart was simply too weak right now.
We didn't know why she was targeted, it could be Hannibal's family, or simply revenge from other bears who knew I killed Hans to separate her from him, but she was Wolf Trap's number one target right now. They wanted her and her pups dead.
The Greywood was bear-proof, so she couldn't leave.
I had to keep Sabrina happy, secure and stress-free here at the cabin.
