My heart raced and I couldn't understand anything he was saying. His words faded away and soon my only concern was her safety. She was safe with Alex but if one person caught him I knew he'd panic and turn her in. My sweaty palms rested against my jeans as Dad looked into my eyes and narrowed them quickly before turning and getting into his car. An audible sigh left my cold lips as I rubbed my forehead but froze when screaming came from up north of me. I watched in horror as a girl, the same girl I had seen only twice in my life, ran towards me and started to hit me. Her eyes were red with tears cascading down her rosy cheeks. Confusion etched itself into my heart as I watched her frantically push me away. What happened to her?

"You killed her!" She continued to muffle words and hit me with her small fists when I grabbed her hands and held them in my own while the guards came running from their post.

Her scarf was stained with tears when Gerald and Peter came from behind and grabbed her arms. She flailed her legs and broke down in tears again. To say I was shocked was an understatement. I realized that my upper lip had cut open from when she jammed a hard object into my mouth. The blood slid down my mouth, but my hand already had blood on it. I frowned and looked up at her hand and realized she was holding a knife in her palm from the wrong side. I made a silent prayer and thanked God for that or else I would've been dead right now. Slowly I watched her drop the knife and give herself away to the guards that began cuffing her.

I tried to recall her words and frowned. Had she eavesdropped into our conversation and thought her sister had really died? I raked my mind for any possible indication other than that but froze when a loud scream came from a distance. I frantically looked up and watched as the man I had once shot came running towards me in full speed. "Aleena!"

All the guards stopped what they were doing and watched in horror as two women came behind him and started to push him back into the woods. His black eyes were brimmed with tears and I could tell he was holding it back. I took a step forward but he screamed again, his loud call echoing into the city. His arms were held back by a woman who seemed to be scared too. She glanced at me with hatred and whispered in the man's ear before he finally let the tears fall free. I had never seen a grown man cry. His shoulders shook with anger as he attempted to wipe the tears away but failed. He eyed the guards carrying her away and fell to the ground and wept. "She promised."

I watched as they slowly began to push him away when a bloodcurdling scream came from the car. The police car shook as Aleena pounded on the window in anger and frustration. The man couldn't handle it. His eyes widened as he nearly ripped himself from the women and screamed her name while threatening me. "Aleena! Let her go or I swear to God I'm going to kill you! Aleena!"

Even though I knew I could take him, I was a bit scared for my life. The smaller woman who I guessed was either Aleena's age or younger pushed his chest and cried. Her small voice spoke and Tariq remained quiet before he let them push him away for a second time. I wondered where they were going. Rumors went about town that wolves lived in those exact woods. Anyone who ever went in, never came out alive. I watched as they pushed him and focused my attention at the girl in the car who had passed out. Her small frame was locked in place with silver holds as her eyes rolled back in her head. She undoubtedly thought May was dead. I stood there in the middle of the streets and watched as all the cars drove away.. I racked a hand through my hair and stood there in complete shock until realized something. Dad. Dad was going to go search for May.

I jumped in my car and roared on the engine before dialing Alex's phone number. The streets were dead silent. I looked down the empty roads and noticed that all the houses looked abandoned. The cars were mostly demolished and the streets were ripped and jammed up. This was the part of town where most of the inhabitants were gone. Almost all of them were in the detention camps for the head scarves or for supporting it.
