one. The devil made me do it

Judah Saint-Darlene was born October first, 1989. There was nothing extraordinary about the birth. The mother, Adeline Saint-Darlene, had been pregnant for nine months now and was due for labour. So, at 11:57 am, she brought into this world a healthy young boy.

There was nothing exceedingly special about Judah. Simply, he was a son who was loved very dearly by his mother.

It was the second son born to Adeline that made this day exceptionally remarkable.

Micah was born three minutes later, on exactly the twelfth hour. He came into this world, wailing and covered in blood. Ironically, this fact of birth would define the course of his life.

This second baby was a surprise to both the parents and doctors. Throughout every visit, every ultrasound, every step of pregnancy, only one child was determined.

"monochorionic monoamniotic." the doctors had said. "A hidden twin behind the other, tucked away just out of view"

How wrong they were.

Micah's birth was unexpected, though welcomed nonetheless. Thus, came the meaning of his name; who is like God?

Who, too, had been virgin in their conception? Unforeseen though blessed nonetheless?

(who, too, had been forsaken by their maker? Knew the burn of faith?)

Growing up, Micah and Judah were inseparable. So, too, were they indistinguishable, and not the way twins usually are. No, from the curve of their noses, the jagged corners of their smile, even the placing of their teeth, the two were identical. If you broke down the braiding of their DNA, compared their fingerprints and bone marrow and dental patterns, there would be no difference.

Micah was a carbon copy of Judah.

The only thing that differentiated the two were their personalities. Judah was more outgoing whilst Micah was rather shy. Still, they were both synonymous in their kindness and love.
