Denisha couldn't stop thinking about Dewayne. Every detail of their brief encounter replayed in her mind like a favorite song. She was eager to get to work the next day, desperate to catch another glimpse of him. The night felt endless, her dreams filled with visions of Dewayne's smile and those gold teeth that sparkled like a promise of something exciting and new.Morning finally arrived, and Denisha rushed through her routine, barely taking time to savor her coffee. She couldn't wait to see Dewayne again. As she walked into the jail, she felt a flutter of excitement and anticipation. She clocked in,never been happier to scan her hand, ready for whatever the day might bring, but was immediately greeted by her boss.
"Good morning, Jackson," her boss said with a smile. "Just a reminder, you start your vacation in 2 days."
Denisha's heart sank. "Vacation?" she repeated, her mind racing. How could she have forgotten?
"Ummm...Could I cancel that request? " she blurted out.
Her boss raised an eyebrow. "I'm afraid you can't cancel now, Denisha. We've already hired a temp, and you'll need to train them today. Enjoy your break. You deserve it."
Denisha nodded numbly, feeling a wave of disappointment crash over her. She had been looking forward to this vacation for weeks, but now that she met Dwayne, the thought of being away from him for two whole weeks seemed unbearable. She had been blinded by love at first sight, and now she felt trapped by her own plans.
As she made her way to her office, Denisha's mind raced with more thoughts of Dewayne. She couldn't shake the feeling that she needed to see him, talk to him, find out more about him. But for now, she had to focus on training the temp and preparing for her unwanted vacation.
The day dragged on, each minute feeling like an eternity. Denisha tried to focus on her tasks, but her mind kept drifting back to Dewayne. She wondered what he was doing in his cell, if he was thinking about her too. She felt a pang of regret for not being able to withdraw her vacation request, but she knew there was nothing she could do about it now.
By the time her shift ended, Denisha was exhausted and frustrated. She had managed to train the temp, but her thoughts of Dewayne had left her feeling distracted and unfocused. As she clocked out, she felt a sense of dread wash over her. The next two weeks were going to be torture.
Denisha headed home, her mind still racing. She knew she needed to relax and prepare to enjoy her vacation, but all she could do is think about Dewayne. She hoped that when she returned, he would still be there, waiting for her. Until then, she would have to make the most of her time away and try to keep herself from going crazy.
As she settled into her evening routine, Denisha couldn't help but feel a little hopeful. One more day left at work to steal a glance at Dwayne, Maybe this vacation would give her the chance to clear her head and figure out what she really wanted. And when she returned, she would be ready to see Dewayne again, with a clearer mind and a determined heart.
