Under Pressure
Denisha knew she was getting in deep, but she couldn't help herself. Dwayne had a way of making her feel like she was the only woman in the world. The next day at work, the place was still buzzing with gossip and tension. The cell phone incident had everyone on edge, and Denisha was trying her best to keep her head down and avoid any more drama. But Dwayne had other plans.
During her lunch break, Denisha slipped away to a quiet corner and called Dwayne, just as he'd asked. His voice was as smooth as ever, but there was a new urgency in it. "Hey Boo, I need you to do something for me," he said, not even bothering with small talk.
"What's up?" Denisha asked, trying to sound casual, even though her heart was racing.
"I need you to go to Big Lots and pick up five prepaid phones. Can you do that for me?" he asked, his tone soft but insistent.
Denisha paused for a moment. She knew this wasn't just a small favor. This was serious. But the way Dwayne asked, the way he made her feel like she was the only one he could trust, she couldn't say no. "Okay, and what will I do with them once I purchase them?" she asked, already knowing she was in too deep to back out now.
"You'll package them and mail them to the C.O. in Pelham, Georgia," Dwayne replied. "And I need you to pick up a lil cash from Western Union for those phones I left in West Palm," he added, his voice dropping into that begging tone that always got to her.
Denisha couldn't help but smile. "Okay, Babe. I'll do this for you this one time," she said, feeling a strange mix of excitement and dread.
She hung up the phone and took a deep breath. This wasn't just about helping Dwayne anymore. This was about proving her loyalty, about showing him that she was down for whatever. But as she sat there, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was getting in over her head. Yet, at the same time, the thrill of it all, of being needed by Dwayne, made her feel alive in a way she hadn't in a long time.
As she went about the rest of her day, Denisha couldn't stop thinking about what she had just agreed to do. She knew she was playing with fire, but for Dwayne, she was willing to get burned.
Denisha walked back into work, and the place was pure chaos. She could feel the tension in the air as soon as she stepped through the doors. She didn't need the extra heat at work, especially after the cell phone incident, but it seemed like everyone around her was losing their minds.
The nurses were out of control, as Denisha received the news that contraband was getting brought in left and right, and the fallout was hitting hard. Word had spread fast-Nurse Young got fired for dating an inmate, spending hundreds of dollars for phonecalls, providing him with Newports, sending sexy pics of herself, and even writing him weekly love letters, all of which were confiscated from his cell. The whole place was buzzing with gossip. The rumors were hotter than a stove, and everyone was talking about it.
But that wasn't all. Charge Nurse Watkins was truly under investigation, with whispers flying about her sleeping with CSP Brown during the night shift. Denisha couldn't believe how messy things had gotten. This was turning into a nightmare for her, especially since she was trying to stay low-key about her own knowledge of the cell phone that was discovered.
Denisha moved through the halls, keeping her head down, trying to avoid the drama swirling around her. She knew the walls had ears, and the last thing she needed was anyone suspecting her of being involved. But the stress was getting to her, the pressure building with every step she took. The whole situation was a ticking time bomb, and Denisha was desperately trying not to get caught in the explosion.
