Raine Kensington
Every day has been so goddamn fucking boring. But recently, it's been eventful.
I've been able to take my mind off of personal endeavors and focus on work. I've only become Astrid's manager two years ago and before that, I was working a corporate job in a cubicle. Boring I know. Now, some may like that but for me? It's a no.
Being Astrid's manager has been an amazing experience. Although, there were a few bumps in the road as I worked my way up and learned how to be a manager for an artist. The good experiences push out the bad ones.
I absolutely love my job and taking the risk of not having stability. Jacob hated the fact that I took a job from a friend. He called this not a real job because it wasn't under an actual label.
"Raine..." Astrid's voice takes me out of my head. I turn to face her as we walk through the city. "This isn't a dream, right?"
I look around and back to her face. "Um, I'm sorry but I'm lost." I wave around. "I was in my head. I'm not sure either."
Astrid stops in the middle of the sidewalk and steps in front of me, clearly dazed as well. She puts both hands on my shoulders and shakes me. "I just got signed to a major music label and you helped me." A smile dances across my lips as I come back to Earth. "And to make life easier we know the CEO. Isn't this shit crazy?"
Life doesn't seem to be life right now. Everything feels fake. Astrid's right, I just helped her get signed to a music label. But she did this all herself, her talent is what got her here, got her signed. I only did a little work to set everything in place.
She mindlessly tilts her head side to side, happy, in bliss. It's refreshing to see my best friend happy and on her road to becoming a superstar.
"I only did some work, Astrid," I say as we continue walking to who knows where. Astrid has a permanent grin on her face. "You're the superstar here." I nudge her shoulder.
Astrid continues talking, using her hands to help her communicate, as my phone buzzes inside my pocket. I reach behind my back pocket and grab my phone.
Jacob: Want take out for dinner?
Me: Yeah, what do you have in mind?
"Too bad Killian was busy, I wanted to treat him to lunch or something, as a thank you." Astrid said, opening the door to a restaurant.
Jacob: Thai or Vietnamese food, pick one.
Me: Thai
Jacob: Okay, cool. See you at home.
Me: Love you
Read.
The hostess seats us. I place my bag on the other chair next to me as Astrid sits across the table.
"You okay?" She asked. Her eyes searched mine. "What's wrong?"
Putting my phone face down, I look at her with a small smile. "Nothing, Jacob was asking if I wanted take out for dinner." I don't know what to tell her. I don't want to be a burden.
Astrid frowns and gives me that stank look like she's disgusted. "Okay, thank you for telling me," she said slowly. Her tone says she doesn't believe me. "But that's not the full truth, spit it out."
I groan, throwing my hands against my head. "I don't want to ruin your day." I peek through my fingers.
She sighs. "You won't," I know she's telling the truth. "Plus, if something's bothering you, you need to tell me."
