2075 A.D.
"Welcome to the future, of our future!" says Mr. Christian Brooks.
Charlotte was watching a week-old livestream on YouTube, of one of the most reputed tech companies in the world, Cyberian. It was a special launch event hosted by Mr. Brooks, the CEO of Cyberian.
While sitting on her bed, on this cloudy day all by herself, Charlotte considers this YouTube video as her sole companion. Watching this particular video has been her only other task for a week, more important than sleeping and eating. Her friends message her, her parents phone her but most of the time, ignoring them seemed the easiest task for her. She was never like this, not at least a month ago.
"Charlotte! Charlotte are you alright?", shouted Dr. Griffin from outside her house. Standing beside him, the waste collector said, "Maybe she's ill."
Dr. Griffin: "But I did her checkup a few days ago."
Saying this, Dr. Griffin shouted her name again. The old man was Charlotte's neighbor and the only person in her colony who cared for her.
The waste collector: "Her dustbin has been empty for three days. It usually never happens so I thought maybe something was wrong, and thus I called you."
Dr. Griffin: "You did the right thing."
The waste collector said, "She is a nice person and talks to me frequently whenever we meet, that is why I cared to call you. Otherwise, maybe I wouldn't even have noticed it. But for a month, I didn't notice her coming out of her house. Is there anything wrong?". As the cold wind of the morning blew across his face revealing the cloudy weather, Dr. Griffin gravely turned towards him and said, "Her husband was martyred on the border, a month ago."
"Every individual has a whole world inside their mind. An old saying, quite true. So, seven billion people mean seven billion minds and, thus, 7 billion worlds. Quite fascinating, isn't it? But suddenly today why am I interested in these quotes? Well, I am not interested in the quote, it was just about an idea. An idea without an execution is...nothing more than gossip. I am more interested in its execution."
Charlotte watched it on her YouTube hologram screen, as Mr. Brooks continued his talk while he took the stage.
"As I said about seven billion minds and their own individual worlds. Quite a big number, but the question is, what creates this world? And this thing is so efficient that every mind has its own version of it, completely different from any other being. So what is it? Any guesses?"
The audience, composed of journalists, industry professionals, investors, and many tech enthusiasts, was watching tirelessly. While some were trying to answer, Mr. Brooks carried on.
"Alright, I'll give it to you. Our memories, and also to some extent, our dreams. Memories of past experienced events and dreams of our subconscious mind. Those are the common things, right? So why discuss this stuff? Because how we perceive this world around us depends on how our inner world lets us."
