"She loved listening to music. There was a song that was her favorite. Whenever she was sad, she used to play it on speaker and felt happy. Whenever she was busy doing some task, she used to sing it. Its duration was three minutes and fifteen seconds. She used to say that when she was a kid, her mother used to sing it to her. So, I decided to play that song. It reminded me of her. Believe me, the first time it felt like she was right there, right beside me. Tears rolled down my eyes. I wasn't able to hold myself. It felt so good, so peaceful...it was unexplainable. But as soon as the song ended, I turned around and I wasn't able to find her. She wasn't there, she will never be. The silence after the song ended, reminded me of my reality. I was afraid and began to panic. So I played it again. Again it felt good, but as soon as it ended..."
Dr. Griffin paused and took a deep breath.
"I started to play it on a loop, to avoid its ending and to feel her presence. But trust me, child, the song's ending felt heavier and heavier as I played it further. Now, it didn't give me the peace I wanted, the happiness I craved for. It only grew heavier and showed me that...that I am alone, forever. That no matter how much I try to hide, the truth will come back because this is...reality. Slowly, I understood that all of this, may look peaceful at first, but will eventually hurt me, more than the actual reality and that, holding onto it, will be of no value. I understood that I have to accept it no matter what, and understood it harshly. I understood that if I stayed there, I would be stuck there, forever as there is no way back. So, I left."
Charlotte looked at him with a poignant look on her face and asked, "Don't you remember her?"
"I do, but now, it doesn't haunt me. I know that now, she is living in a better place. She is seeing me from there, and maybe is happy for me.", replied Dr. Griffin.
Charlotte: "But what happened to her...it was..."
Dr. Griffin gently smiled and said, "It was destiny. Being a man of science, I am saying, that there are some things, beyond our knowledge, beyond our definition of science. Destiny is one of them, and so is love. Otherwise, it won't be possible for me to love her as much as I did when she was alive."
Charlotte: "But life won't be the same without them."
Dr. Griffin looked up at the sky and smilingly closed his eyes, as he saw the rain had stopped, and a bright Sun was peeking through the clouds, shining as the eye of heaven.
Dr. Griffin: "Yes, but it should not bother us. Look child, these scars in our life, they are not meant to be fixed, because they simply cannot be. So the best thing we can do is, learn from them. If any bad thing happens, which is inevitable, it will hurt, very much. But believe me, after a certain time, it won't. And after that, you've learned from it, you'll grow stronger. So, cherish the memories with them and live your life as they would have wanted you to live. Be as happy as they would have wanted you to be. Life isn't a problem to be solved, it is a journey to be experienced."
Charlotte took a deep breath and looked outside. Seeing the bright atmosphere outside and feeling its warmth, she smiled.
The end.
