You were awakened by what felt like a huge earthquake. As you stumbled to the window, your eyes widened at the sight of a massive balls of fire hurtling down from above. It careened through buildings, igniting flames that engulfed everything in its path and reducing structures to rubble.
"This is Vice Captain Hoshina speaking. Captain Ashiro is absent, so I will be assuming command. Nightwatch personnel, to your battle stations! Off-duty officers, report immediately. All hands, prepare for combat. We must lure them to the training area and ensure none escape!"
After donning your suits and grabbing your weapons, you ventured outside into what had become a veritable inferno. The skyline was dominated by crumbling, burning buildings while wyvern-like kaiju soared overhead.
"Let's move, Y/n," Kikoru declared urging you both onto the battlefield, poised to eliminate the monstrous threat.
You arrived at the location where Platoon Leader Ikaruga and the others struggled to target the enemy's weak spots. Through your earpiece, you heard that the kaijus were cooperating with each other.
"There's another way," Kikoru announced over the earpiece.
"Shinomiya?" Reno responded, surprise evident in his voice.
"What do you mean, another way!?" Iharu exclaimed.
You sprinted towards the enemy, your footsteps echoing sharply. Kikoru launched a direct assault on the giant foe, aiming for its stomach.
"We'll use our super strength," Kikoru declared.
Before the kaiju could react, it suffered massive damage without being directly hit, causing its flesh to erupt, leaving everyone stunned.
As another kaiju prepared to attack, you surged your combat power to 30% and hurled your small double-edged scythe towards it, adjusting your aim meticulously.
"Extend,"
you commanded. In mid-air, the scythe elongated into a formidable weapon, slicing through the kaiju's head in an instant. With a gesture, you commanded, "shrink," and the scythe reverted to its original size, returning to your waiting palms as though alive. Your glowing red lenses enhanced your precision, guiding the scythe with unerring accuracy.
In the underground weapons storage room at Tachikawa base, you and Kikoru were summoned by the captain and vice captain. The room was meticulously secured, with an array of weapons neatly arranged within.
"A custom weapon?" Kikoru inquired as they led you to two heavily secured storages.
"I thought you had to be a captain to get one," you remarked, struggling to grasp the unexpected news.
"Normally, yes," the vice captain replied, hands on hips, squinting at you in their signature manner. "But we've decided to make an exception."
"The fortitude levels and number of Kaiju we're encountering this year are abnormal. Given that you two are among the most powerful officers on the base, we've chosen to integrate you into our main force," explained the captain, arms folded. You and Shinomiya exchanged glances, stunned.
The captain pressed a button to reveal the contents of the containers housing the weapons. Your eyes widened at the sight of the armaments that would accompany you onto the battlefield.
"L/n, Shinomiya, henceforth, you are our third strongest assets after the captain and vice captain. Your mission will be to annihilate the Kaiju," the captain declared nonchalantly, as you remained fixated on your new weapons.
You carefully withdrew yours from its storage—a small crimson double-edged scythe, about the size of a dinner plate. As your hands touched it, a wave of nostalgia washed over you, bringing tears to your eyes.
Kikoru noticed your reaction and panicked. "What's wrong, Y/n?" she asked urgently. But you could only sob, trying to wipe away your tears. "I... I don't know," you managed to respond, feeling your heart ache.
The two division heads exchanged a glance, realizing you must have recalled something significant, which surprised them both.
You look down as you hugged the weapon you thought you just met.
But deep inside it has a great history hidden that would help you unlock your past."I remembered something."
You announced as the to division heads walk up to you, showing their concern."I think I remembered my father."
Your father was the original wielder of the weapon. You remembered when you were little, you used to steal it away from him and tried to fight using it.
You remembered receiving a non stop yapping from your mother, saying that it is a dangerous thing to play with deadly weapons.
Maybe that's the reason why your mother doesn't want you to remember the Anti Kaiju Defense Force.
It's because, your father died because of his unwavering dedication and urge to fight against a formidable ememy which cost him his life.
You were told that he died because of an illness, but in reality, he died as a hero.
Leaving you a fragment of his memory.
