Year ago

"Y/n?" A woman wearing a lab gown called you, but your mind drifts somewhere because despite how close she is and how loud her voice was, you didn't hear it at all.  "Y/n?" She called you again but this time, she tapped your back which made you startle and brought yourself back to reality.

You didn't say anything rather than shift your eyes with a confused look on your face. "How are you feeling these past few weeks? Any progress on your memory loss? " She asked while pushing her eyeglasses up to her nose. Her attention was on you but her eyes were on the paper she's writing which her scribbling sounds echoed in her small office.

"Still nothing, Ms. Thompson." You replied and she just nodded glancing at you and turning her eyes back on the paper. You are currently in her clinic for an  overall check up. "I see," clicking her tongue " Any concerns? " She added.

You're hesitant but Ms. Thompson paused to wait for your response, eyes glued on you while her glasses were sliding down her nose bridge again. You gulped,"How long will it take me to recover my memory back?" You asked her, full of hope.

She gave you a sympathetic look and then shook her head. "My job is only to assist you throughout, then the rest, it's all up on you. Meaning, you have to help yourself in fighting it out. Your memory loss,it may not go away, and, depending on the cause, it can get worse over time. So there's no specific time on how long it takes." She explained which made you glance at your mother who's standing outside, peeking through the glass windows of the clinic to keep her sharp eyes on you.

You didn't fully understand why your mother has to drive you to have your check ups in this sketchy looking clinic located in the outskirts of town.  The psychoteraphy didn't help you at all. But since you were taught that mother know's best, you didn't question your concerns about it.

"Here, I also added a tip." Your mother secretly handed Dr. Thompson a white envelope, filled with fortune. She immediately slid it in her pocket.

"You didn't do anything, still usual?" Your mother asks while staring at you who's sitting inside the gray painted car while you're staring blankly far away outside while thinking what you used to be when you didn't lost your memory, what kind of people you made friends and what was the life you had before.

You tried to open it up to your mother only to get changed by another topic or scolding you.

"Still usual, the only memory she has was a memory of someone reaching for her. That's it."

"That's good, we'll see you next week."
Your mother said, ready to walk to the car.

"How long will you keep it from her? I mean it's been 1 year. I can't keep on doing this." Ms. Thompson confessed, your mother stops and glance at the woman in white who is now looking down.

" I can keep on doing this forever. If you can't, I will find another to work for me." She didn't wait for Mrs. Thompson's response or doesn't really care about what she wanted to say. She walk casually to the car and proceeded to the driver's seat.
