It all started with One Direction's latest tour. The months had been going great for the band. Tickets were selling out in a matter of minutes, and the fans were amazing with every stadium and show they performed. In his time in the United States, Harry had taken a liking to a girl he met on the subway on some rainy day while staying in Massachusetts. She had been minding her business reading a book when the famous British singer approached her.
"Hey," Harry said, sitting next to her.
She glanced up from the book she was reading, looked at Harry judgmentally, and replied, "Hey."
"Sorry to bother you, I wanted to tell you that I really like your outfit." Harry said, trying his best to flirt with her.
"Thanks." the girl said and awkwardly laughed before returning to her book.
"I-I mean, I also noticed your tattoo!" Harry burst out and gestured at a tattoo of a tennis racket on her arm. "I assume you play?" Harry composed himself again. "I enjoy tennis, too."
At that, the girl's eyes lit up as she told Harry that she was on a tennis team at her university.
"That's awesome! When did you start playing?" Harry asked.
"Pretty much since I could walk! Practically my entire family plays, that's why I love it so much." She replied and began telling him a story about tennis from her childhood. Harry tried to look interested, but in truth, he didn't care for the sport much. He really just wanted to get to know her more. He just really hoped she didn't ask him what his favorite tennis player was.
They talked about tennis some more and then moved on to other topics. By the time they got off, Harry felt satisfied at the connection they had made and had even gotten her number. Her name was Y/n, and she was studying biology at Harvard University. A few hours later, Harry texted her and asked if she wanted to meet up. She said yes, and they made plans to go out for dinner the next day.
*The Next Day*
Harry took his newfound friend to Outback SteakHouse, making sure to get a seat in a somewhat reserved area so he wouldn't be bombarded with fans. The two of them sat at the table waiting for the waitress to come and bring menus so that they could list their drinks to order.
In the meantime, while the two of them sat there waiting, Harry tried to spark a conversation with the lovely girl sitting across from him. "Have you heard about the band One Direction?" He looks at her awaiting her reply to his discreet self promo.
"Yeah, I've heard a few of their songs. Why do you ask?" He paused and looked at her in disbelief. Just about every girl his age knows about One Direction. They were like the biggest boy band as of now. "Uh, no reason. I thought maybe you'd listen to them since they're so popular at the moment."
The girl turned away in thought. "Actually, now that I think about it, I do remember taking a liking to one of the members."
Harry leaned forward in anticipation. "Yeah, he had curly hair and a wonderful smile..." She paused. "But I don't remember his name."
Harry looked intrigued. "Would it happen to be, Har-"
She cut him off. "That's what his name was! I think it was Liam?" She looked proud of herself for remembering his name. What she didn't take into consideration was not only hurt but disappointed look on Harry's face."Oh." He trailed off, looking at the menu to hide his displeasure.
Harry tried to hide his hurt with a question. "Have you figured out what you want to order yet, love?" She looked up at him and smiled. When she looked back down at the menu, she just realized what he said. "Love." A light blush coated her cheeks at the nickname. She quickly dismissed it, though, figuring that's just something that British people say to people.
