Author's Note

I once mentioned my old fanfiction hobby to a career mentor of mine. When I left my externship, she gave me this cute little Sans plush as a parting gift. Who knows, maybe it was the start of my little Undertale revival? He now sits on my desk, and he'll probably make an appearance in my speech office once I start my new position. Any of my kiddos who know who he is might get an extra sticker (but shhh, don't tell anyone!)

Also, if you want to help decide the futures of some of the characters, feel free to give your thoughts in the survey posted on my profile. Thanks, and enjoy!

~Your perspective~

Sans had left you at the ruin door, but not before having you promise to come over first thing in the morning. Seeing Chara had clearly rattled him... whether she had really been there or not. You hold your hand to your chest and draw in a deep breath, the image of Sans' tearstained face sending a jolt through you. Although you're still processing everything that he said...

I'm so glad he talked to me.

You sigh and sink onto your bed, relaxing fully for the first time since that morning with Asgore. Sans was right. Throughout your time together, the two of you haven't always been the best communicators. And while he seemed to think it was one sided, you admit that you can work on that area a bit too. You remember how nice it had felt to release your built up pain as he held you, to finally talk freely about Justin, and finally tell him about your nocturnal visits from Chara...

Chara. If he really did talk to her, why now? And more importantly, how? I've only ever met her in my dreams–how could she have appeared to him like that? Was it really just a hallucination?

You aren't sure what to think. You lay down and pull out your phone to check the time. It's getting into the evening hours, so you quickly shoot a text to Frisk. She had said that she was going to be playing with MK for a bit, but sometimes she gets carried away and forgets how long the walk back to the ruins is.

You (now): Don't forget to get home soon!

You doubt she'll even look at her phone until it's about bedtime.

You (now): Ask Sans to teleport you if it's too late.

You shove your phone in your pocket and sit back up, deciding what to do with yourself. You glance around the room, wondering if it would be best to just sleep. On the wall, you notice a picture of a buttercup. You stare at it, thoughts churning in your head. You're sure that you've seen that picture a million times before without really noticing it, but tonight... tonight it gives you an idea.

You stand up, feeling in your pockets for your pocket knife. Up until this point, your interactions with the homicidal child have always been on her terms, with her showing up in your dreams whenever she liked. You check your other pocket, making sure the syringe from Dr. Gaster is there as well. Assured that you have your equipment, you quickly leave the room, moving with purpose not towards the basement, but towards the ruins.

She's been too quiet lately, you think, easily navigating the ruin's deactivated puzzles. Instead of waiting around for her to make a move... I'm going to go see exactly what she's up to.

You don't exactly know what you're going to do when you get to the Mt. Ebott entrance. In truth, you hadn't been back since you'd fallen down several months ago. However, you know that's where Chara's soul lies, trapped in her decomposing body–and if she really did torment Sans today, you're going to give her a piece of your goddamn mind.
