─── ∙ ~εïз~ ∙ ───"You can't understand the Outer Banks without understanding the boneyard. It's kinda like a three-layer burrito. There's us and our friends, the working-class derelicts."
"Then, there are the Kooks, the rich second-homers. They're mostly from poncey-ass boarding schools, just rich trustafarian posers. Our natural enemies."
"And then, there are the Tourons. Totally clueless. Here for a week on vacation with their families. Chum for the sharks. All but one, Sunny from Arizona, ironically the sunniest state. She's the only Touron here that isn't actually a moron."
Soleil Alvarez sat underneath her birch tree, waiting. Her family hadn't even finished unloading the moving boxes when she saw the Instagram posts that there would be an annual summer kegger at the Boneyard. The girl politely asked her mother for permission to attend, which she immediately granted. Soleil was a good daughter, trustworthy and reliable. So Autumn Alvarez had no issue with giving her freedom.
Pope Heyward walked over slowly, watching her from afar. She was in a criss-cross position and facing away from him, her dark brown hair and pale green T-shirt being the only thing of hers he could see. He inspected her more thoroughly as he took some more soft steps in the sand. She was now clearly wearing denim blue shorts and her nails were painted their usual sunset colour. "Hey, Sunny!" He called out to her.
Her head quickly snapped back to face him. Seeing that he came and didn't stand her up as she feared he would, brought a smile onto Sunny's face. The girl quickly got to her feet and rushed over into his arms. Pope laughed at the impact, slightly lifting her off of the ground.
"I was scared you wouldn't show," Sunny admitted, holding him tight.
"I always will. This is our spot." Pope reminded her as she pulled out of the embrace. "Same time every year."
Sunny flashed him her famous, bright smile. "This is going to be our best summer yet. I can feel it."
Pope shook his head with a smile, just admiring her. She looked different from when he saw her last, though she looked beautiful as always. "You say this every single year."
"I mean it this year, I really do." Sunny insisted.
"We should head to the party, John B's passing around some beer." Pope told her.
"Exciting."
"So..." Pope cleared his throat. "What are the cards saying?" He asked and Sunny grinned at his words. All of the Alvarez women had a special creative talent, and Sunny's was her incredible understanding of tarot cards— it was all she ever talked about. Pope watched as she reached into her back pocket and pulled out a card: The Hierophant. "Upright or Reverse?"
