I stood over the bodies of both Ser Erryk and Arryk. Next to me my wife held my hand and Jacaerys next to her. With Vaenya at my left.
"He is the basest of villains.", Jacaerys spoke.
"And he sullies the grave of his brother.", Vaenya added. "We cannot fault him for keeping his oath.", I stated. "And what of those who sent him?", Jace questioned.Jace and Vaenya looked at each other before following the knights back into the castle. Rhaenys walked up toward us. "Otto Hightower would never have allowed this. Hotter blood has prevailed, I think. The young men have taken the bit in their teeth. They wish to punish to avenge. Soon they will not even remember what it was that began the war in the first place.", Rhaenys told us.
"That is easy enough.", I whispered. "They usurped my throne.", Rhaenyra answered. "That is one answer. Or was it when the child was beheaded? Or when Aemond killed Vaeron and Luke, or when Luke took Aemonds eye? We teeter now at the point where none of it will matter. And the desire to kill and burn takes hold and reason is forgotten. There may be another way. Alicent Hightower.", Rhaenys said.
As Rhaenys spoke I feel Rhaenyra tensed up. I knew of the history they shared. But Rhaenyra was the history. Alicent was a friend. One who betrayed her. For her own ambitions. Maybe for the ambitions of her father.
"When last we met, Alicent said I would make a fine Queen. You've seen what has happened since then.", Rhaenyra spoke. "She came to me in the hours after your lord father's death. She knows war is coming and that it'll be savage beyond all compare. There is no war so hateful to the gods as a war between kin. And no war so bloody as a war between dragons. I do not believe she wants it.", Rhaenys stated.
"She sent a raven. I do not care to read her message. What she did.", Rhaenyra whispered. "It is not her but the men around her who seek bloodshed.", Rhaenys said. "She permitted it.", I replied. "As did you both permitted the murder of a little boy in his bed. Daemon feeds of the anger of his wives. You both are his Queens therefore you permitted it.", Rhaenys responded.
"Alicent is in Kings Landing. Her son sits my throne.", Rhaenyra stated. "There is nothing more to be said.", I stated.Rhaenyra and I walked up the stairs after hearing word of Mysaria wishing to speak with us. "We were told you turned back from your ship to bring warning.", Rhaenyra said. "I was not believed at first.", Mysaria replied. "You saved my life.", Rhaenyra told her. "What is the life of a Queen worth these days?", she asked.
"You wish to be rewarded.", I answered. "As I would think you would wish to reward me for saving your wife.", Mysaria said looking at me. "What price would you set?", Rhaenyra asked. "A place at your court.", Mysaria answered. "You said to my wife you wished to flee Westeros.", I said.
"And she let me go. She showed me grace when she could have with held it. I'm not often surprised.", Mysaria responded. "One turn for another, then.", Rhaenyra spoke. "I know the working of the Red Keep. And the movements of those who serve it. That is worth more than gold to you know.", Mysaria said.
"And what is her worth to you?", Rhaenyra questioned. "I would punish the Hightowers for what they've done. To me, to those who served me. But more than that, I know the struggles of the small folk of Kings Landing. They will be ruled either by you or by the usurper. And only one of you has shown yourself merciful.", Mysaria answered.
"Well I hope you do not confuse mercy with pilancy.", I spoke. Seasmoke let out a screech in the distance and our heads turned. "Are they always like this?", Mysaria asked. "Seasmoke my late lord husbands dragon. He's grown restless of late. We cannot know why.", Rhaenyra answered before turning with me to leave. "Maybe he's lonely.", Mysaria wondered out loud.
The two of us walk into our room where Rhaena sat. "Rhaena.", Rhaenys spoke. "Your Graces.", Rhaena said with a bow of her head. "I've decided to send Joffery to ward with my cousin, Lady Jeyne Arryn. She has pledged an army in return for a dragon. So she will have one. Aegon and Viserys as well with Vaelora and Vaeleys shall accompany him until a place of greater safety can be found.", Rhaenyra informed.
"Tyraxes is but a hatchling. And Stormcloud.", Rhaena trailed off. "We wish for you to go with them.", I said. "The Red Keep is in disarray. They have sent one assassin in the night and there dragons are ever a short flight away. You must take the little ones further to Pentos we think.", Rhaenyra added on.
"Where my mother died.", Rhaena stated. "It is safer than anywhere in Westeros.", Rhaenyra told her. "My mother died there. That may not be much to you. But Queen Aaliyah you loved my mother. And you both want me to stay there.", Rhaena whispered in shock.
"Rhaena you shall write to Prince Reggio. If he will have you, then go to him. We are sorry to put this upon you.", Rhaenyra said. "It breaks our heart to send our children away not knowing when or if we shall see them again. But you have seen what may befall them here. And you are right Rhaena I loved your mother. Which is why I also know she should want you safe.", I told her.
"We need you to be the mother we cannot. Teach them, train them, guard them as a dragon guards her eggs.", Rhaenyra spoke. "And my sister?", she questioned. "I need Baela here.", Rhaenyra answered. "Because she has a dragon?", Rhaena asked. "We cannot promise to make you happy. But I ask you: make this sacrifice willingly, for all of us.", I replied.
