Gabi sat in the clinic's waiting room, her mind a whirl of emotions. She had made the decision to go on birth control, not because she didn't want children, but because she needed to take care of herself and her relationship with Daya first. She couldn't face another loss right now. It was too much.
Daniel had driven her to the clinic and sat beside her, his presence a comforting constant. "You okay, Gabi?" he asked gently.
Gabi nodded, though her expression was one of determination and fear. "Yeah, I think so. I just need to do this."
He squeezed her hand. "You're making a smart decision. Take things one step at a time."
The nurse called her name, and Gabi followed her into the examination room. The appointment went smoothly, and soon enough, she was walking back out to the waiting room where Daniel was. They left the clinic together, heading back to the apartment they shared.
Back at the apartment, Daya was waiting for them. She had taken the day off to be there for Gabi, to support her in any way she could. As soon as Gabi walked in, Daya wrapped her arms around her, holding her close.
"How did it go?" Daya asked softly.
"It went fine," Gabi replied, resting her head against Daya's shoulder. "I'm on birth control now. I think it's the right thing to do for now."
Daya nodded, her eyes filled with understanding and love. "I support you, Gabi. Whatever you need, I'm here for you."
Gabi smiled weakly, grateful for Daya's unwavering support. "Thank you, Daya. I just want to focus on us, on our relationship. I want to make sure we're okay before anything else."
As the days passed, Gabi and Daya worked on rebuilding their relationship. They talked about everything, their hopes, their fears, their dreams for the future. Isabella had decided to step back, understanding that Daya needed to focus on her relationship with Gabi. But Selena would still see her mommy Daya, and that was a compromise everyone was happy with.
One evening, Daya suggested they go out for dinner. "Let's have a date night, just the two of us," she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Gabi agreed, feeling a sense of anticipation. They dressed up and went to a beautiful restaurant in the city, enjoying a delicious meal and each other's company. They laughed, talked, and reconnected in a way that made Gabi's heart swell with love.
After dinner, Daya suggested a walk along the beach. The night was clear, the stars twinkling above them as they strolled hand in hand along the shore. The sound of the waves was soothing, and Gabi felt a sense of peace she hadn't felt in a long time.
As they walked, Daya suddenly stopped and turned to face Gabi. She took both of her hands in hers, her expression serious but filled with love.
"Gabi, there's something I need to ask you," Daya began, her voice trembling slightly.
Gabi looked at her, her heart pounding in her chest. "What is it, Daya?"
Daya took a deep breath, then got down on one knee. She pulled a small velvet box from her pocket and opened it to reveal a stunning engagement ring.
"Gabi, you are the love of my life. You've shown me what it means to truly love and be loved. I can't imagine my life without you. Will you marry me?"
Tears welled up in Gabi's eyes as she looked at Daya, overwhelmed with emotion. "Oh my God, Daya... yes! Yes, I'll marry you!"
Daya slipped the ring onto Gabi's finger, then stood up and pulled her into a tight embrace. They kissed, the world around them fading away as they held each other, both of them filled with joy and hope for the future.
The next few weeks were a whirlwind of excitement and planning. Gabi and Daya began to prepare for their wedding, wanting to make it a day to remember. They talked about their future together, about their dreams of starting a family when the time was right.
Isabella was supportive, understanding that her role was now focused on co-parenting Selena with Daya. She even offered to help with the wedding planning, wanting to be part of this new chapter in their lives.
Selena was thrilled by the news, though she didn't fully understand what it meant. She was just happy to see her mommy Daya so happy. The little girl continued to be a bright spot in their lives, her presence bringing joy and laughter to their home.
On the day of their engagement party, their closest friends and family gathered to celebrate their love. Daniel made a heartfelt toast, expressing his happiness for his sister and her future with Daya.
"To Gabi and Daya," Daniel said, raising his glass. "May your love continue to grow stronger every day. You've both been through so much, and you've come out of it even stronger. I'm so proud of you, Gabi, and I couldn't be happier for both of you."
The room erupted in cheers and applause, and Gabi felt tears of joy streaming down her face. She looked at Daya, who was smiling back at her, her eyes filled with love.
As the evening went on, Gabi and Daya danced together, holding each other close. The music played softly in the background, and for a moment, it felt like they were the only two people in the world.
"I love you, Gabi," Daya whispered in her ear. "And I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you."
"I love you too, Daya," Gabi replied, her heart full. "More than anything."
They kissed, their future bright and filled with endless possibilities. They knew that there would be challenges ahead, but they also knew that as long as they had each other, they could face anything.
And so, under the twinkling lights and surrounded by the people who loved them, Gabi and Daya began their new journey together, hand in hand, ready to face whatever came their way.
