I love my name—who doesn’t? At 26, I'm not very tall but delightfully slim, and I embrace that about myself despite what everyone says. I used to be overweight, and you can imagine the trials I faced in high school.

Now, I live with my aunt and work as a chef at a charming little restaurant we started this year, thanks to my beloved aunt Samiha and uncle Nazir. My parents passed away—my dad to cancer and my mom during childbirth. Imagine the heartbreak of carrying a child for nine months only for such a tragedy to occur. It’s hard not to feel a pang of guilt. Friends abandoned me during tough times, but I’m blessed to have my aunt and uncle, who took me in when I was stranded and jobless. I was young and naïve then, and my choice in friends reflected that.

My dream is to become a chef at a prestigious hotel, InshaAllah, but for now, I’m waiting for that big break. At least I have a job and have come this far. You might think I'm just dreaming, but dreams do come true, right? Something is better than nothing. I want to support my aunt and uncle so they never have to work again.
