They were on the road.

Again.

It was better than the last time they had been out wondering.

Seemingly aimlessly.

They had the food they had taken from the church to ration out, plus whatever Daryl managed to find hunting, so spirits were high.

At first but the constant wasteland of expensive cars and grey forest was slowly demoralising.

Carl was on high alert.

Gabriel had been avoiding him, sticking to the sidelines with his eyes sharply on him.

The fuzzy hair on the back of his bald head was high and alert.

It made Carl feel powerful.

He hadn't tried anything yet, but Carl knew it was only a matter of time.

A horde.

Sickness.

Anything would make Gabriel run with his dick slung high up in between his legs.

So Carl chose to wait until they made camp late in the day.

Laying by Maud's side, Carl patiently waited with his eyes closed, counting the minutes until a change of lookouts.

It wasn't hard, with Gabriel around, to sleep.

Carl was too tense to sleep; whenever his head lulled backwards, he would jerk awake again.

Unrestful, Carl thought back to the day before to keep his brain alert and his mind occupied.

Tara had a knack for filtering. Despite the girls' brash natures, she held a patient attitude that only rivalled Daryl's ability to gut a squirrel without flinching.

Gabriel had offered to bless the water.

Carl didn't know what that was supposed to do and was tempted not to drink it out of spit, but the group had no reservations about it.

Allowing the man to go off with Tara and Daryl into the woods, the group made camp for the night, setting down their bags and making makeshift pillows out of them.

They would wait.

Maud set Judith and Wren on the ground, gathering empty food tins to occupy them while she did her job of weaving tree Branches together for shade as Judith had developed red cheeks, Maud thought she just had rosacea, but no it was sunburn, according to Rick so Maud set about fixing it.

Maud's hair was messy, not aided by brushes or combs, but tying it back, it was at least out of her face, much like Carl's hair pulled back in the front, party in the back style.

"Stay safe"

Carl tapped her shoulder as he walked into the trees. It had taken much convincing, but Rick had let his son out of his sight because Daryl reassured him that he wouldn't stray too far from them.

"Always," Maud replied.

Michonne noticed Carl leave and stared after him, her lips pressed.

Maud didn't think much of it despite spending every day together for the better part of nine months. Maud was used to being left to her own devices as somethings Carl wouldn't bend on when it came to her pregnancy, looking at the babies playing, maud took the metal tin Judith held out to her.
