He didn't like the feeling that came over him when he saw the man stop his car and step out onto the dirt path.
It made him feel the same way that the dead did...

Carl knew now that there was no balance between the good and the bad.
If there ever was just chaos.
Unpredictable happenings.
That he may or may not interpret as good or bad.
There was no trade-off or guarantee of anything good happening again, but what was almost inevitable as Carl entered this part of his life was that he was swept up in a continuous tale of unfortunate events.
Life had never been this quiet, even when Maud had been assumed dead along with Wren the first time, Carl always had something or other playing in his mind.
Finding his family.
"Carl"
Surviving.
Guilt.
That one was an ever-present fire burning through the silence.
No one talked about it.
"Come on"
Maud.
Just hushed whispers and sharp smiles.
Ron was an easy target.
Those words were harsh, pestering on the edge of Maud's name to get a rise out of Carl, but Ron never said it and just stuck to spitting words of indifference when Carl was very aware of how Ron was bothered by him.
Young and flushed red in the face, reflecting Carl's frustrations.
They both were bouncing rings of unexpected, pushing and pulling rage.
Ron transfers his anger from Rick, an impenetrable force so strong on his son.
"Carl, please"
Carl wanted someone to acknowledge Wren and Maud.
For once.
Carl spent his days questioning Maud, somone who wasn't around.
Who had run from him, from Wren?
Carl was waiting for the rest of them, his dad, Michonne, Daryl, Mickey, Carol and Maggie, to disappear.
Leaving their beds empty and the doors to their homes open in their wake.
So, if that reverted him into a small child following around whoever was stuck with him for the day, then so be it.
No one complained.
Carl was lucky not to have his fears confirmed when Glenn and Enid strolled back into the bar, heralded by green balloons.
Glenn was treated with favour, Maggie flushed in the face, and everyone was happy.
