Maud woke up of her own accord to light streaming in from behind half-open curtains.
Sitting up, she felt unusual as Wren wasn't calling for her; nobody was handing her Judith so that she could suckle her raw and make the bed in pieces.
Only the sound of a sharp toaster going off downstairs allowed Muad to relax; she wasn't alone.
The dent In the old mattress where Carl would have slept was cold, and by the time Muad had called downstairs, she was greeted with silence. However, of the houses, many occupants were there and had left in a hurry to complete their newly assigned jobs, Maud bet.
So, apart from the girls always sleeping together down the hall, Maud was alone.
She was thankful for that.
Maud didn't know how to face everyone after last night's outburst.
Having calmed down and drew her attention to something that her body deemed more critical.
Matters for the flesh.
Maud decided to try her damnedest to make Alexandra work for her.
It was just past noon, according to the clock.
Maud would have felt bad about sleeping late, but nobody had woken her, and she had nothing that she couldn't wait to do, so she let herself relax.
Maud sat in the little time between babying, cleaning, and cooking now, thanks to Carol, who was assumably doing that for her this morning, in front of the television.
It was Large and old-world-like.
The kind that had VHS tape payers attached to it.
Maud left a sleeping Wren and Judith on the couch as she looked through the various DVDs and VHS tapes accompanying the books on the shelves.
One had Deanna's face on it.
Some promotional material was used for one of her campaigns, as she wore a non-revealing suit with sharp shoulder pads.
Curious, Maud popped the DVD in.
It had previously been played around a third of the way through, skipping the introduction and starting in the middle of what looked like a Surman.
Vote for Deanna today.
Maybe Mickey wasn't exaggerating regarding her Family's odd tendencies.
Standing on a large stage, rows and rows of Christians sat in the church, which resembled more of a stadium than a place of worship, sealed the deal for Maud.
She remembered where she had seen this place before she and Carl took some refuge in it on their travels.
The idea that they had almost joined the walkers that cheered on Deanna made Maud go to eject the disk.
Deanna was joined by her family, Mickey noticeably absent.
Kneeling by the television, Maud made the call that it was time for her to stop watching.
Wren began to wake, pawing at the air with her stump to sign for her mother.
"I've got you", Maud satiated as she rocked Wren back and forth, hoping that maybe all that sleep she had gotten the night before wouldn't mean she would refuse it now.
Maud was wrong; it looked like Wren was up for good now.
Maud assumed that she'd been suitable for a while longer due to Judith not waking at Wren's fuss. Placing her hand on her chest and feeling the light upwards and downwards heaving off her chest, Maud let her rest.
