Chapter 13 - Warm

(Grays POV, 2 weeks later)

"I cant believe gramps made us do that job together alone! Man that sucked." I teased Natsu.

"Hey!! We got the job done didn't we ice princess??" He yelled back.

"Yeah whatever flame brain, I'm just glad I don't have to spend anymore time alone with you." I rolled my eyes as we entered the guild hall. I spotted (Y/N) eating dinner at a booth and decided to join her. I sat across from her and immediately picked a piece of food off of her plate and ate it.

"Well hello to you too!" She rolled her eyes. "In case you didn't know, when you get hungry you can actually walk right up to Mira and ask for some food! You don't have to eat scraps off peoples plate to survive." She laughed. I pause for a moment before responding because her laugh sends an odd sensation through me just as it has every time for the past few months. It makes me feel warm.

Before I get the chance to respond she asks, "How was the job with Natsu?"

"Horrible. I still have no idea what makes gramps send us on jobs just the two of us if he knows how much we can't stand each other." I scoff.

"Awe cmon you know that's his way of trying to get the two of you get along, he has your best interest at heart!" She says.

"Yeah yeah best interest whatever." I roll my eyes jokingly and she laughs. There it is again, that warm feeling I can't quite figure out the meaning of. She finished her meal as I told her about the job we took.

"Awwwww look it's the cute couple dining togetherrrrr!" Happy teased as he walked past. Both of our faces were immediately tomato red.

"Can it cat!! Hey fire clown tell your cat to mind his own business for once!!" I yelled to Natsu.

"Alright popsicle breath no need to yell at Happy for saying the truth!!" I quickly stood up and our heads bashed together.

"What was that??" I yelled through my gritting teeth. We went back and forth for a moment before it turned into a brawl. We threw tables and chairs and punched each other aimlessly. After a bit Erza stepped in and stopped both ends.

"That's enough. If you haven't noticed, (Y/N) left a while ago. That must say a great deal about whatever it is the two of you are fighting over." She stated.

"Crap." I said, rubbing my head and squinting an eye while sitting in the floor.

"Go get your girlfriend dummy!" Natsu yelled as I stood to walk out of the door, but all I had time to do was grunt at him before I went off after her. It was stupid to get in a fight over that and I need to find her. I ran towards the girls dorms until I saw her walking down the path.

"(Y/N)!!" I called out as I ran up to her. She looked to the ground as she walked. "Where are you going?" I asked, slightly out of breath as I caught up to her.

"Home." She said bluntly.

"Huh? What's wrong (Y/N)?" I asked, curiously. I know I've done something wrong but I'm not sure what. She stopped in her tracks and turned towards me.

"Is even just the thought of being with me so unbearable that you have to fight Natsu over something not even he himself said? Because I can't come up with a different reason for why you had to do all of that." She said.

"W-huh? What? No!! That's not why I fought him at all!!" I exclaimed, taken aback. "Everyone keeps saying those kinds of things and the both of us keep asking them to stop so I thought it bothered you, I just wanted them to stop making fun of you, that's all." I tried to explain cautiously.

"It does bother me. I mean it doesn't bother me because- well I mean I don't-" She tried, but I cut her off.

"It doesn't bother me (Y/N)." I said staring down at her. She looked even more flustered than before and for some reason I feel the same warmth throughout me as I do when she laughs. What is this feeling?

After a moment of trying to gather her words she says, "Me either, it doesn't bother me that way either. It's just the fact that they say it aloud. It confuses me." She explains.

"I get it. No need to explain yourself. I shouldn't have fought with Natsu, I'm sorry."

"No it's okay, I shouldn't have just left. But I don't really enjoy watching you and Natsu fighting all the time anyways." She jokes and I laugh.

"We should take a job together soon, just the two of us. We haven't in a while and we always get it done faster when it's just us two." I joke.

"Pick one off the request board when you get back and we'll leave first thing in the morning." She smiled up at me. I'm getting sick of this warm feeling all the time and having no idea what it is. I'm never warm. Why do I feel warm around her?

We approach the door to her dorm. "Thank you for wanting to stick up for me. Even though it wasn't in my preferred way, I still appreciate it a lot." She said.

"I'll always stick up for you (Y/N), you're my best friend." I reminded.

"Do you wanna come in? I was gonna hop in the shower and watch a movie, which I guessss means you'll have free rein over the snacks." She rolled her eyes. My response was pushing past her and opening the door. She laughed and I was warm.

We watched the movie and ate a ton of snacks. We sat close together on her small 2 person couch. About halfway through the movie I heard her yawn.

"Tired?" I ask and she shakes her head no. "We can pause it and finish it another time, I don't mind." I offer.

"Nooo I wanna finish it!!" She said as she looked over to me.

"Alright, alright!" I laughed as we continued the movie. Less than 15 minutes goes by and I feel her head lean against my shoulder and I realize she's asleep but I continue the movie anyway. I followed her into sleep not long after that and my head rests against the top of hers.

(Y/N) shoots off the couch onto her feet and startles me awake. "Oh, good morning (Y/N), are you alright?" I ask as I notice a blush painted across her cheeks that she is actively trying to hide. She doesn't respond so I say, "We must've fallen asleep during the movie, I guess you should have paused it when I said!" I joke.

"I-I'm sorry! You didn't have to stay you could have left after I fell asleep I didn't mean to keep you all night I'm sure you would've rather slept in you're own room and ohmygosh if someone finds out we could get in sooo much trouble and it would totally be my fau-" She rambled on until I cut her off.

"Hey! I don't mind, I must've fallen asleep right after you, I was tired as well and didn't feel like traveling back to the boys dorm anyways. It's alright, don't worry about it." I explained, hoping she didn't notice I was also trying to hide a slight blush.

I don't know what could have possibly possessed me to do this, maybe the warmth, but I stand to embrace her in a hug. "I should stay the night more often, I had a lot of fun." I told her.

I could physically feel the heat emanating off her body. After more moments than I would have assumed she responded, "Sure, that would be cool." Accompanied by the warmth was my heart beating faster and faster. What in the world is this girl doing to me?
