Chapter 9 - The Past (Part 2) The Hero

The car stops at a house. The drive felt short; it must have taken us 10 minutes to get here. I had expected him to take me far away, given his nature. He gets out of the car and opens the back door, pulling me out without caring if he's hurting me in the process. I follow him as he drags me by the arm. Looking around, I recognize this place—he's brought me to his family's house.

He opens the main door, and his butler acknowledges Kai. When he notices me, we instantly recognize each other.

Kai: Don't disturb me!

Butler: Yes, sir! looks at me Ms. Ruby? he looks worried

We walk up the stairs and enter a room. He drags me to the bed and throws me onto it.

He opens the cupboard, takes out a fresh towel and a set of clothes, and throws them on the bed next to me.

Kai: Freshen up!

As he's about to exit the room, he turns around.

Kai: You better shut your mouth, got it? He shuts the door behind him.

I look at my state and hate what I see. I do as he says and walk towards the shower room.

I strip off my clothes and stand under the shower, letting the freezing cold water numb me all over again.
This happened quite frequently back then when we used to date. He would always act the same way—one day he was the best, and the next he was like the devil in disguise. 

He seemed okay when we first started dating. Ayato wouldn't have recommended him if he knew Kai would turn out like this. Initially, he was a decent guy. However, he gradually began drinking excessively, doing drugs, and cheating constantly.

I went through it all with him, and that's why I'm so weak-minded now. I rely on medication to calm me down.

Will he ever leave me alone?

I get out of the shower and wipe my body. Standing in front of the mirror, I look at the bruise on my left cheek. Would you do this to someone who loves you? I start to tear up and finally break down. Why me? What did I do wrong? I got the worst parents, dated the worst man, and now I've fallen for a notorious gangster. Such is my life.

I pull myself together, get changed, and sit on the edge of the bed, praying and hoping he won't show up.

I'm starting to feel really tired. I lie down on the bed, and before long, I drift off to sleep.

I wake up to someone touching my back under my shirt. I feel a finger run down my spine. I quickly jump out of the bed.

Kai: You're finally awake. He adjusts himself and sits up against the headboard.

Ruby: Swallowing  What? What's your deal? How long have I been here?

Kai: Ah, it's hardly been 15 minutes. He gets up and walks towards me.

I'm pushed back against the curtains.

He raises his forearm and places it above my head on the wall, making me feel extremely claustrophobic. I look at him and frown.

Ruby: Do you know how much I hate you? I don't get why your pare—

He slaps me again.

Kai: Shut up! Don't talk about them. They don't care, so why do you?

Ruby: I touch my lips as I start to bleed, I decide to just shut my mouth.

Kai: You know I've missed you, right? He grabs me by the waist and throws me on the bed. He gets on top of me, and I begin to scream and shout.
