Chapter Text
As Ibrahim had adverted her last night, Hürrem was summoned to Suleiman's chambers where he was waiting for her after finishing breakfast with Milena. His expression turned serious upon seeing Hürrem. His veiled dissatisfaction made Hürrem feel uneasy, as she knew immediately that she was in trouble.
"Hunkarim," Hürrem spoke to Suleiman with the utmost respect as she bowed to him. "You summoned me."
"Indeed, I did," he answered emotionlessly as he was busy finishing a rich and very detailed necklace. It was a very beautiful piece of jewellery. Suleiman didn't bother to look at the redhead, and she didn't dare to ask him if that necklace was for her. He took his time to speak to Hürrem again. "Have you wondered why I summoned you here?" he asked.
"I don't know, Hunkarim. Have I done something wrong? I can explain..." Hürrem tried to explain herself before being cut off by Suleiman, who raised his hand silently, implying that he was not in the mood to hear the same excuses she always gave when she did something wrong. His piercing blue gaze seemed to instantly intimidate her.
"Indeed, you did. You don't need to explain yourself, but I want you to know that you wronged me twice yesterday Hürrem. If you don't understand what I mean, I can explain it to you quickly," Suleiman interrupted her in a tone that didn't allow Hürrem to retort. Despite speaking calmly, Hürrem had never seen him being this upset with her before. "First, you wronged me by being rude and disrespectful towards my mother. Also, you wronged me again by berating the woman who saved my life and the lives of many of my men in battle in the campaign in Hungary over a ring that was not even meant for you in the first place. How dare you to question my decisions? Who do you think you are?".
Hürrem remained silent as he kept talking, not to piss him off more. She was trying her best not to cry in front of him after his harsh reality check on her. In Hürrem's mind, Milena not only had managed to sneak her way to Suleiman's bed last night but also made her experience the worst embarrassment of her life in front of him. She would make her pay for this, but she had to act quickly and get rid of her before she got pregnant like she did with Isabella just before arriving at Topkapi Palace. Hürrem had enough of Firuze already being so close with the Valide and Hatice Sultan, she didn't want Milena to become another nuisance in her life like the Persian concubine.
"Instead of being rude to my mother, you should listen more carefully to her when she says that men like me or my father don't belong to one woman." Suleiman kept talking relentlessly without raising his voice. "I need you to understand that I'm no longer a sehzade. I'm the Sultan right now, I have other duties and responsibilities and I can't waste my time dealing with your immaturity."
Hürrem was listening at the verge of tears and was unable to speak, she couldn't believe that the man she loved so dearly could be so dismissive of her and her feelings by shattering her dreams to be the only woman in his life. Hürrem felt stupid for thinking about the fantasy of Suleiman closing his harem for her and that she could be his wife someday. She had paid a high price for a life she had never asked for after she saw her family die and being sold as a slave. To Suleiman, she would never be more than another beautiful slave like Firuze, just being there to please him and bore him children but nothing more than that. He made it that clear but she refused to accept that reality.
"I told this to Firuze in the past, but now I'm going to repeat it to you Hürrem. Your main role here is not to be my wife or something like that, get rid of that idea from your mind because I don't remember promising you anything of the sort. What I expect from you is the same I expect from the other women from my harem, that is to provide enough heirs to ensure the future of this dynasty. I don't expect more than your focus on Mehmed's upbringing to be a decent heir". He finished his tirade emotionlessly.
