As kids, we would all play family,
And everyone had a role.
The Mom was always given to me
Because apparently I had an old soul.
I was never the cool sister,
Or one of the twins.
I never had a special mister,
Or ever really fit in.
Instead, my job was to care
For the twins, the sisters, the misters.
Feed them well and fix their hair.
I was the glue that kept them together.
Now, I'm "The Mom" among my friends. .
We're a little older, a little colder,
And you'd think the childhood game of family would end,
But it will never.
Not that it's a bad thing
Because I love being the shoulder
To which my family clings.
