Class ended, and it was now break time. Amanda headed straight to the library, her usual refuge. She selected a novel and began reading it at an extraordinary speed, her perfect memory allowing her to register and analyze the words in an instant. She tried to focus on the story, hoping it would distract her from the unsettling events of the day.
Despite her efforts to avoid Henry, when she raised her face from the novel, she found him standing right in front of her. She was taken aback, wondering how she hadn't noticed his approach. Henry was so close that the smell of blood was unmistakable, as if he had killed someone very recently.
"How didn't anyone notice this strong smell?" Amanda thought to herself, her heart pounding.
"I see that you like reading books," Henry interrupted her thoughts, his voice smooth and steady.
Amanda's eyes narrowed. "What do you want from me?" she asked, ignoring his comment about her reading.
Henry's smile widened. "I just want us to be friends."
"And I don't want to be friends with you. Now, leave me alone!" Amanda replied sharply, her usual calm demeanor cracking under the weight of her fear.
Henry laughed, a chilling sound that sent shivers down Amanda's spine. "You will understand everything soon, A49."
Amanda's heart nearly stopped. "Wait!! Why did you call me by that?!... Where did you hear it from?!" she demanded, her voice hysterical.
Henry ignored her outburst and walked away, chuckling to himself. Amanda was left alone in the library, her mind racing. The cryptic term "A49" had surfaced again, this time from Henry. Frustration and fear mingled within her as she tried to make sense of it all. Henry's attitude and the dark presence he exuded only deepened the mystery surrounding her.
She knew she had to get to the bottom of this, but first, she needed to calm down and regain her composure. The library, once her sanctuary, now felt like a cage closing in around her.
The bell rang, announcing the end of the break. Amanda walked back to her class, her mind still reeling from her encounter with Henry. As she made her way through the crowded corridor, she could hear the whispers of her classmates around her.
"Did you see Amanda and Henry together in the library?" one girl whispered to her friend.
"Yeah, they're always together since he transferred here," her friend replied. "I mean, it's natural, right? The insanely handsome guy with the popular and super pretty girl, of course, they would end up together."
Another voice chimed in, "They must be dating. It makes so much sense!"
Amanda ignored them, her frustration bubbling just below the surface. The truth was far from what they were imagining. She went straight to her seat, where Henry waved at her. She ignored him, still fuming from his dismissive attitude in the library.
As class started, Amanda could feel Henry's gaze upon her. It was unnerving, and she glanced at him sharply. "Stop staring," she hissed under her breath.
Just then, the teacher called on her. "Amanda, please come to the board and solve this problem."
Amanda looked at the board and saw an integral equation: The integral from 0 to 1 of x^3 - 2x^2 + x. She took one look at it and quickly solved it in her mind, writing down the answer within seconds. "The answer is 1/12" she said confidently.
"Not bad," Henry commented, a hint of admiration in his voice.
The teacher then turned to Henry. "Henry, your turn. Please solve this one." He pointed to another problem on the board: What is the integral from 0 to pi of
