Amanda reached home, trying her utmost to appear normal. Her father was waiting for her in front of the house, his worry evident in his furrowed brow and anxious pacing. She was later than yesterday, and his concern had grown.
"Amanda, where have you been?" her father asked, his voice laced with worry.
"I forgot the time while training again," Amanda replied, forcing a smile.
Her father eyed her suspiciously. "Amanda, that's not the truth. Tell me what really happened."
She laughed it off, trying to sound casual. "Dad, really, that's all it was. I just lost track of time. Let's focus on dinner now. I bet you're hungry. What do you want for dinner?"
Her father sighed, giving up on his questioning for the moment, though his worry remained. "Alright, let's eat. How about some spaghetti?"
Amanda nodded, grateful for the change in topic. The night passed without incident, but she was still shaken by the day's events. The gruesome memories of Henry's actions haunted her, making sleep difficult.
The next morning, Amanda went to school, her mind racing with thoughts about what to do. She couldn't just go to the police. Henry was popular, and his young, innocent appearance would make her story hard to believe. Worse, she was terrified of what he might do if she snitched on him.
As she walked through the halls, she overheard the whispers and gossip that filled the school. "Did you hear about the massacre in the alleyway?" one student whispered.
"Yeah, it was so gruesome. They say one of the bodies was butchered," another replied.
"Who could do something like that?" a third student asked, shuddering.
Amanda listened, knowing she was the only one who knew the real truth. She felt a deep unease settle in her stomach. She went to her class and sat at her desk, her mind too occupied with thoughts to care about her surroundings.
As usual, Alex hit her desk on purpose, but this time more harshly. Amanda was so preoccupied with her thoughts that she barely registered the action. However, Henry noticed and walked up to Alex, his expression darkening.
"Apologize to her now," Henry demanded, grabbing Alex's arm tightly.
Alex scowled. "HUH?! Don't get cocky because you're popular and handsome," he snapped, tightening his fist, ready to hit Henry.
Amanda noticed the situation, flashes of yesterday's incident rushing to her mind. She almost vomited again but steeled herself, rushing to the scene, fearing what Henry was capable of. "Wait!! Don't fight. I forgive him, Henry. You don't have to fight," Amanda said, begging.
Henry looked at her, his expression softening slightly. He released Alex's arm. Alex gritted his teeth and returned to his desk, glaring at Henry.
Amanda sighed in relief, but her unease grew. Henry's presence was becoming more dangerous, and she needed to find a way to deal with him before more people got hurt.
After that, Henry looked at Amanda, a casual smile on his face. "Oh, forgot. Good morning, Amanda!"
"Who are you? What do you want from me?" Amanda asked, her voice trembling with a mix of fear and anger.
"I'm just someone who happens to know your past," Henry stated calmly.
"Wait!! What past?!" Amanda exclaimed, her concern deepening. As far as she could remember, her life had been normal, without any dark secrets or hidden past.
"You will understand soon," Henry said, chuckling.
"You are lying to me! Stop saying this nonsense!!" Amanda screamed, her rage boiling over just as Mr. Thomson entered the classroom.
