After making sure Amanda returned home safely, Henry went back to Kurdrox and went straight to the Vice President's office. His fury was at its peak as he entered the room. Mr. Johnson sat calmly behind his desk, his face as cold as ice.
"L13 told me everything," Mr. Johnson said in a chilling voice.
"Why did you go after A49? Didn't we have an agreement?" Henry exclaimed, yelling at Mr. Johnson.
"That's right, but everything has changed now," Mr. Johnson replied, his tone steady and unbothered.
"What do you mean?" Henry demanded, his fists tightening in frustration.
"As you can see, Kurdrox has grown bigger in the last few years, and our technology has become more advanced. We realized our mistake," Mr. Johnson paused for a moment. "We thought that the rabbit test was merely to test the children's willingness to kill, but we were wrong. It turns out that the test was an essential step to awaken the bloodlust we had installed into the children."
"Wait, that means..." Henry's words fell apart as he pieced it together.
"Yes, A49 still has a chance to awaken, provided that she kills a living being," Mr. Johnson explained.
"Why not take her as an assassin to work for Kurdrox? Why kill her?" Henry's voice began to rise.
"You didn't see her during the rabbit test. I attended her last test personally since she had the highest potential. Her scores were higher than anyone's! But in that test, she refused to kill the rabbit at all. She turned to the glass and looked at me. Her eyes were void, her expression unreadable. Then she walked to the door and opened it. I was about to give her another chance because of her high scores, but then she surprised me by saying, 'Just kill me. I'd rather die than kill an innocent soul.' I changed my mind after hearing that. She already knew about killing the failure subjects, yet she was ready to die rather than obey orders. Awakening her bloodlust would only mean awakening an uncontrollable monster that threats to destroy our organization," Mr. Johnson finished his explanation and gestured with his hand.
Five young assassins, almost henry's age, entered the room, equipped with assault rifles and swords, paying no consideration to the fact that Henry was once their comrade. "You were truly a splendid tool, H56, but you had unnecessary emotions, and that is your downfall! Each one of these new tools has undergone more advanced tests and is guaranteed to kill you," Mr. Johnson smiled with confidence.
"Heh, do you think these wimps can defeat me?" Henry chuckled, his smile widening.
Mr. Johnson's smile faded at Henry's words as he prepared for the fight.
The assassins moved swiftly, their training evident in their coordinated attack. Henry, however, was faster. He unsheathed his sword in a fluid motion, deflecting the first barrage of bullets with an almost supernatural ease.
The first assassin, a tall man with brown hair, lunged at Henry with his sword. Henry sidestepped, slicing through the man's side with precision, then kicked him into another attacker. The second assassin, a woman with fiery red hair, swung her sword at Henry's neck. He ducked, pulling a knife from his jacket and plunging it into her chest, twisting it to ensure a fatal blow.
Three more assassins charged at once. Henry rolled forward, avoiding a spray of bullets. He came up behind one, slashing his Achilles tendon, then spun to deflect a sword aimed at his head. The attacker stumbled back, giving Henry the opening to thrust his sword into his heart.
The remaining two, a man and a woman, moved in perfect synchronization, attempting to corner him. Henry pulled his gun from its holster, shooting the man in the leg and the woman in the shoulder. She screamed, dropping her weapon. Henry finished her off with a swift slice across her throat.
